Wow Susan - Talk about being in the right place at the right time! That's got to be one great experience to have Phoenix fly only 6-10 feet directly above your head in pursuit of prey. I'm so glad you were there to witness it and report back, and I'm so glad that dear Phoenix is doing so well. You must be on cloud nine!

P.S. Thanks too for the diagram of Phoenix's trajectory in relation to where you (the cute red stick figure) were standing.

You know, the more I think about it, Phoenix was way too low and should not have been that close to the ground. It was thrilling for me, but I wish she had stayed a lot higher. Juvie mistake but thankfully not a fatal one.

One time I saw Kinney flying pretty low down South Meridian Street to the L.S. Ayres building where he and Kathy nested one year. I was on the parking garage across the street from that building and he flew at eye level right in front of me to land at the old nest site. It was amazing. Bonnie and Scott were there too and Scott actually captured some fabulous pictures of Kinney.

So I guess what I am trying to say, is maybe it wasn't too low, especially if prey was involved. And we know she has the strength to get back up high, unlike when she first fledged and got stuck in that flower pot at the Artsgarden!!!!

Hard not to worry about any of the juvies as they make their ways through the skies - high or low.

Anyone after their first watch is considered wise by all! You demonstrated from the very first time you were downtown last year, you had the eyes of a peregrine and found birds when no one else could.

Now I can't comment on the "dorky" part since you fit right in with the rest of us, but newbie, definitely NOT!!!! :laugh

HaHa! Reminds me of my first falcon watch in Buffalo! Except they weren't pigeons, they were seagulls! :sunrolleyes:

I am sure we all have some funny "sightings" stories. The first year I was watching I always was telling Richard I saw one and then he would tell me it was just a light fixture or some other inanimate object. At least you guys were seeing live birds!! Oh, Richard, he is soooo patient!
