that is a huge platform they are on and so they should be able to really flap there.

Oh no! I'm hoping that this means she may recover enough to be an ambassador bird and not the "other" alternative. . .

OH WOW...that is not good news at all....I wonder what they will decide to do...you know, seeing the pics of her standing up in the carrier are so misleading...you would never know that she had so many medical issues...I am thankful she is in such good hands...

RE: Harlie...

They finally were able to post some updates...I believe she fledged this past Saturday...this account is the most humorous...

Ann Brokelman Reports:

Today at the watch Harlie decided it was time to test my nerves. Both Debbie and I are still shaking.
First thing first. Thank you To the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and all their fledge volunteers who do this day after day after day, year after year. You have nerves of steel and man I admire the lot of you. Mark Marion Bruce Tracy Frank Lyn and Kathy (the only ones I know) you are totally amazing. Thank you thank you thank you.
I arrived today at the watch and Bruce and I enjoyed watching Baby Harlequin fly around the Harlequin building and then land on top of the building.
Baby Harlie was amazing.
Murray and Debbie arrived
3 hours later was a different story. .
Harlequin was chasing the adults on the Harlequin roof - even taking short flights in the air. Kendal did a food drop to Harlie and then Quest came and took it away. Harlie ticked off. She chased mom all over the roof.
Now come the time that apparently I screamed
As Harlie was chasing mom she slipped off and fell head first from the top of the building spinning around. LUCKILY mom and dad peregrine falcon were there to help her adjust her flight and change her direction and truly saved their baby. Now the fun part they started to chased the baby and the baby chased the parents, around and off around and off. Lots of great action and amazing flights by all three of them. Meanwhile I am standing there with my towel on my shoulder, camera off to the side and going OMG OMG. Goosebumps galore and man no nerves of steel with this gal. Bruce comes over and is laughing at me. Both Debbie and I were speak less (oh yes really Murray and Carol)
Bruce took my towel and waved it at me and told me I was fired as photographer since i forgot about the camera during all this amazing action. lol
So that was the end of my little adventure at the fledge watch today. I really admire all the people who can handle this work.
Ann
PS both Quest and Kendal are great parents - they lead and guide the baby all over the place. Could have been a different outcome if not for the parents. Great work mom and dad.
Again you guys at CPF are amazing. Thanks
I am off to take some Valium and rest for the evening. No photos today lol

What a great and hilarious report by Ann. Fired as photograher --> yes. But she should be hired as reporter --> yes!

Sometimes words are worth a thousand pictures.

Both chicks appear to have fledged; an empty nest box today. One fledgling paid a fleeting visit just before 4 p.m. local time.

I am so sorry to read about Lady Gaga. Poor little girl; she deserved so much better than to have this happen. From the description of her injuries, she may have had a collision with a vehicle, rather than a building. It is so hard to lose any one of these beautiful juvies.

One of the fledglings came home; I hope they are both okay.

Calgary update on Allie and Bert:

July 10: Bert's GONE! Lift-off was at 10:25 am (10 min. off my predicted time), and he did GREAT. Landed on law library roof, adjacent to Murray Fraser bldg. Checked on him on campus after seeing magnificent flight on live video. Enjoy the clip, courtesy of 'Joe'. Allie, who SHOULD have gone a few days later, decided she wasn't going to stay home alone, and left the ledge at 13:40 (1:40 pm.). 2 chat participants saw part of this, as the camera was not focussed on the ledge area to capture the whole event. After initial checking of Bert's whereabouts earlier that morning on campus, I returned again later in the afternoon to confirm that 'Allie' (all names given by chat room) had indeed flown the coop. I found her on a nearby ground-level area of the Faculty of Law bldg. and with help from Campus Security and a colleague, captured her and placed her on a lower roof near her old home, Craigie Hall. She was angry, but otherwise healthy and uninjured. See attached link (under 'sets') for pics of rescue and Bert:

(some really great pics!!!)

July 11: Morning check for both - Bert and Allie are where they each were yesterday, and in excellent form and vocally strong. Parent nearby, watching both. Food drops will be made when necessary by the parent and pics from yesterday's rescue of Allie will be posted on Flickr very soon. July 10 was a VERY long and full day for me. And the fledglings. Map of fledgling location from July 11 attached at bottom of home page. Thanks to Irene.

Just back (1:30 pm) from 2nd Allie rescue. It was pouring (rain) hard and she probably needed shelter, so dropped down to doorway close by, but it's on the ground, so I was called to get her - again. Now on Craigie rooftop. She is fine - I am drenched.

Loved the report and pics of Calgary. Funny captions. Hope Allie stays high from now on.

Good to see a juvie back at Red Deer.

Don Mills~Harlie (and Quest) update..

Mark Nash Reports:

July 12 - 2011 PM watch
The great news is that the evening watch documented Baby H flying incredibly well, as she is mastered adult like landings, gaining altitude and staying aloft for much longer flights! She is plucking her own food,,, but still looking to mommy Quest to actually feed her half of the time. The other half of the time, she mantles over the food given to her by Quest and aggressively protects it. No sharing with mom!

Quest continued to nag Kendal throughout the evening tonight, and even I’m getting mad at her!! This poor little guy just can’t seem to escape the constant nagging. Oh my goodness!

On another note, I have finally got a chance to down-load and post some of the photos that I was able to shoot of Quest yesterday. It appears that all of the constant “picking” and “preening” that I’ve been noticing has clearly been for more than just general hygiene.

Quest has been working on her radio harness as most of the lower abdomen straps have been ripped and torn away and is now quite visible and flapping loosely. While this presents no danger to Quest, we just may see the satellite radio transmitter and the remaining harness falling off over the next week or so.

For all of the watchers, we are asking you all to also closely watch Quest where ever she is visible, as we expect that the solar powered radio transmitter just may be falling off sooner than later, especially if Quest keeps ripping at the harness. Also take note that the harness that I outfitted Quest three years ago is pinkish red coloured and is not quite visible.

Please also keep your eyes peeled on Quest where ever she may be, as you just might see the transmitter falling off. We are very interested to recover the transmitter and return it to the DEC.

Stay tuned and please advice………

RE: Calgary

July 13: Got called by Security at home, so arrived on campus before 8am, and discovered the grounds staff who had found Allie (clear from her fuzz-top) on the ground in a pedestrian area next to the Nursing Faculty. I caught her quickly and without much fuss, but she was breathing hard. We put her on the roof area where Bert had initially flown to, right near a parent who began swooping and acknowledging Allie's presence. Made sure Allie was in good shape, which she was, as she jumped out of the recue box, without any help from me. Will post pics eventually of this latest episode. Allie needs to gain strength and experience, and hopefully will stay in that area. She may have tried to follow Bert or parent this morning, as the chat room described some very vocal interactions very eraly this morning.
