TORONTO RESIDENTIAL UPDATE FROM WEBSITE (link below)

Jan 2, 2012 - Happy 2012!!

Even in the winter months there's activity on site so I figured I'd give a quick update for those wondering.

If I didn't know better I could swear on the weekend I saw a bit of what could seem like early courtship, likely brought on by some of the warmer weather we were experiencing. Thankfully the cold returning will subdue the hormones and keep the falcons quiet for another few months.

That said, Jack is still on site regularly, I often see him flying over from his other home around 715AM, and I also see both falcons hanging around on the ledges near the flagpole, so there are definitely two around at least some of the time.

Over the holidays I went to Nanticoke and thought I might have some luck finding our offspring Marla who now resides around the powerplant. I didn't have any luck catching her but I did snap some other birds of prey with the camera, if you're interested check my photo blog here.

Other than that it's probably going to be quiet for at least a couple of months and then I'd expect the annual mayhem to ensue once again. Updates to follow whenever things pick up.

All the best for everyone in 2012!!

Interesting about Courtney! It will also be interesting what happens once mating/nesting season begins.

Oh my goodness. :valbug: What a strange encounter from beginning to end! I don't think I could have watched that vicious fight.

I do not like the viviousness. I know at our nest site, a few years ago the biologists went up and split up the fighting females. I think something should have been done here also. I know that is interference, but that is how it works out here.
I would have hated to see the two locked together . Not good for either of them .

Hope all is well.

TORONTO RESIDENTIAL UPDATE
Latest News
Mar 2, 2012 - First observed mating 2012

This is just a quick entry to record that at 4pm the first mating I myself have observed took place.
I'm sure there were prior episodes before but I have not witnessed any until now.

Not sure if this is news or not because I'm not sure where to put this :girlcrazy:

Bridge peregrines expecting

The Windsor Star April 3rd 2012

It appears Windsor's peregrine pair - Freddie and Voltaire - have laid eggs under the Ambassador Bridge.

The peregrine falcons are definitely incubating some eggs on a pillar ledge, Canadian Peregrine Foundation-Windsor Watch co-ordinator Dennis Patrick said Monday.

The pair were seen mating last month so volunteers who keep an eye on the nest above University Avenue knew there would be eggs soon. There's no word yet on how many eggs could be in the nest.

Chicks could be hatching at the end of April or early May.

The foundation and the bridge company installed a raised nest box last year that should boost the chances of a successful hatch for the pair, who have already had three batches of chicks in the last few years.

Volunteers are hoping for four eggs and chicks which would be the most offspring for the pair.
