I think you're right Carolyn & the smaller one has bands. That's what we originally thought but then in some recent pics it looked like it was the other way around, but that was probably just due to how close they were to the cam. Thanks for the video! :egg5: I noticed that her yelling sounded much like a juvie's & I think he was complaining after she left with the food that she didn't even take time to bond with him before she took off with his gift! :egg7:

Great videos, everyone. After watching them, I have to agree that the one with bands appears to be the male, and his bands appear to be black/black. Now to see the numbers/letters. :egg16:

I'm pretty sure black/black is Canadian.

Both falcons in the nestbox just now, doing alot of bowing and having what I assume, by the sounds of it, was a romantic conversation. The male (I think, I could not see bands) just flew off, and the female (no bands) did abit of scraping, and is now perched on edge of box. She is looking around alot and calling, so I think he is flying about, putting on a bit of a show for her. Boy, that wind is really lifting her skirts.

Bonding, but the male, on the right, was very anxious to leave at the end. I think that he actually fell off the rail. :egg14:

Great video, Coriena. The female was really looking forward to that treat from the male - he barely got in the nestbox when she grabbed it and was gone!

These two were both at the nestbox just now, one on top and one inside. They look so much alike to me, in that both have the same speckled bib, and the same dark cap with a streak of white on the cheeks. If I see them both together I know the female is bigger, but other than that, I have not found a way to tell them apart.

Thanks to Coriena for the long, talkative video. I've borrowed some screen caps from it for this post, and I hope you don't mind . . .

Here's how I tell them apart -- the banded one below has the shape of a white heart on the side of its head. The unbanded one does not.

Yeah, carly, this would have been a great opportunity to get numbers, but too bright.

Good ID tip, Susan! I'm kinda surprised that the people at the facility haven't identified him yet. Maybe they were waiting to see if he is staying, or whether Dot & her mate will get this nest.
