Craig is planning on banding them when they're younger this year so he won't run into the same problem as last year. I let him know that HBG is banding on 5/9 and that our chicks started hatching 3 days after those chicks. I'll let everyone know as soon as I find out when it will be happening!

Hatching April 20-22 this year and April 26-28 or 29 last year. So we're still running six days ahead of last year. Fledging last year was in the first week in June, so I'm sticking with the last week in May for this year.

One reason this could be wrong is that the kids left too soon last year because of warm weather, crowding or whatever. It would be great if they could all stay above ground level from the beginning, like I think CJ and his siblings did when he was a kid.

That would be good Greg. Don't want to see what last year brought. It is all happening so fast , isn't it?

Glad to hear that Craig will do the banding a little earlier this year. And it DOES happen that no rescues are needed. Last year Harrisburg's Little One got himself back on the nest ledge within about 15 minutes of fledging. He set an all time record for that!

Great video Reenie. They do take turns and I see the egg there too. It's so nice to have the video to watch any time.

Just checked the cam view. Chicks are sprawled out at the usual spot, maybe a little closer to the back of the box. One was doing some flapping, but finally settled down. It looked like it may have just eaten from the size of its crop. Boy, that box is a disgusting feather mess!

Tried to get some good shots of this feeding, but the snipping tool doesn't come up immediately when you click it, so by the time it comes up the shot you wanted is gone! The crops I could see are full, which isn't surprising since their parents are great at keeping their chicks fed! :egg5:

Very nice. I would say CJ this time. Mourning dove, blue jay and some smaller songbird feathers today.

THAT IS TOO COOL GREG, OURS HAVE BEEN DOING MOURNING DOVES, BLUE JAYS AND A BUNCH OF SMALLER BIRDS TOO! ONLY PROBLEM IS, I'M NOT FINDING THE FEATHERS BECAUSE OF THE WIND I GUESS. PROBABLY TONS OF COOL FEATHERS ON THE LOWER LEDGES OF OUR BLDG!

I did check in on the kids a couple of times today. Unfortunately, they were always in a pile . . . not posed nicely as in SGB's shot from a couple of days ago.

Fortunately, it does look as though they'll be more mobile in the next day or two. Once they start "walking" around on their elbows, I'm hoping we'll have a better view of them on the cam.
