After making sure I was not duplicating any of Kim's images, here is a slideshow of the banding from the cam's perspective:

Thanks Susan, that's great! I'm so glad someone got some pictures from the cam perspective! :)

Sorry but I did a pretty crappy job getting videos! I can't believe I forgot to take a video of one of them being banded! :gaah:

I was starting to process pictures but my laptop locked up so they may have to wait until tomorrow since I don't have the software on this computer.

Here's one of all the kids when we first opened the back of the nest box. One of them didn't even get up!

This is when Craig is holding up the sign for the kids in the class to see. I love the kid that's closest to him!

This sort of shows one being banded while she's biting on Craig's shirt button.

Red Girl lands on the ledge and you see CJ fly by in the background...

One of the kids waiting to be banded...

All of the kids lined up after being banded...

I told them to stop hiding in the corners but as you can see, they don't listen very well. :)
Yellow feet got yellow tape on her band!

:egg5: OMG! What wonderful news, pictures, and videos about 4 healthy girls for RG and CJ. It was a new experience actually hearing the kids in the nest . . . they were quite the talkative quartet, weren't they? And how nice that yellow foot got the yellow band. (I was glad to hear that they used the colored bands again this year. It sure makes ID's at fledge time that much easier.)

Kim - I just love your pictures where they're all lined up after banding, and that close-up of Red Girl just takes my breath away! I'm so glad you could be there for the banding.

It was really nice to see the nest from that different perspective. Thanks for all those videos and pictures, Kim. What a wonderful experience for you. I was surprised Red Girl didn't come into the nest!

We have FOUR healthy FEMALES!!! I was really hoping for males so they might fledge before I have to go out of town but oh well...

Sorry but I had no idea that he was going to band one of them live or I would have said something so everyone could watch! I will post pictures and video later!

Woo Hoo!

Congrats on 4 girls!!!

Great videos, Kim! These girls are just adorable! As you know, Red Girl is from a nest of 4 girls, & those girls drove their parents nuts! Maybe this year she'll see that turnabout is fair play! :egg6:

BTW, Red Girl is nowhere near as aggressive as the previous female! Although I think I remember another bander saying that they get more aggressive each banding.

Yes, I bet Red Girl and CJ think that they chased the intruders away, and will be more aggressive next year.

Great images, Kim and SusanE.

Nancy, if I knew that about RG being from a nest of 4 females, I had forgotten!

I'll bet the unhatched egg was a male and he said heck if I'm coming out!

I think maybe those kids thought I said to stay IN the corner rather than to stay OUT OF the corner! I don't think they've been out since the banding! At least not for long. I did just see one do a poop shot towards the camera. I guess he was telling us what he thought huh?

Looked at your wonderful pictures earlier, Kim. Just checked the videos. Thanks so much for sharing your experience this afternoon. It was interesting to see that closeup of the unhatched egg, too. And now we know what Craig looks like! Red Girl certainly didn't look like a happy camper. When I looked at the cam a bit ago, could barely see two of the girls in the upper screen corner.

Forgot to mention that I thought it was cool that yellow foot got yellow tape. And I suppose there are now TWO Red Girls in Wilmington? What are the tape colors, Kim? One year in Harrisburg there was one red and one orange tape. Boy, that was hard to tell apart from the ground.

Recently I came across some of Froona's wisdom about the sex of chicks, and if I remember correctly she said the female determines the sex of her eggs and the more females in the bunch, the more the mom feels there is an abundance of food. I'll have to try and find that again to post here.

What a treat to see these pictures and watch the videos from the banding! I waited until I got home from work to watch them so I could do so without being interrupted. This year, I can't watch this nest's live camera feed. It is blocked, but happily, the Harrisburg feed still comes through. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone in our IT department. :egg9: I liked the little chorus from the lined up chicks after the banding.

They are so cute!
