We were so excited to see him come between the buildings. I know Kim got a picture, as she showed us. Hope we have some of those moments this year!

Some of Kim's pictures of CJ and his Cooper's hawk are on her blog:

Select June 2011 and navigate to the entry for June 19 (actually you all saw this event the day before, June 18). Other great pictures in the neighborhood, including Red Girl catching a red-bellied woodpecker.

Ditto for me!

I just checked in on the girls: Red Girl (Little Red? or RJ for Red Junior?) was sound asleep in the lower right, Green Girl was at the top (just before she flapped her way into the center and then down next to Red Girl), Yellow Girl (aka Yellow Foot) was at the upper right, and I presume it was White Girl to the left of Yellow. It's so nice to have the color bands again for ID's!

If anyone wants to read Froona's description of how/why the sex of a chick is determined, here is the link --> . Scroll down about 3/4 of the page to "Gender of the chick." It's very interesting!

I followed the link but can't find anything about gender. What am I doing wrong? Is there a link on the page or something? Please help!

Use the link provided.

Scroll down and click on Mystery of the Egg on left side.

Then, scroll about down about 3/4 of the way on page. If you can't find it, do a search for the word sex and you'll find the information.

Thank you!

Tuned into the cam around 4:25 and caught a feeding in progress. The girls were in their semicircular formation, but were not exactly "polite" this time. They were lunging for the food. When Red Girl left, at least two of them were screaming their heads off. One was Yellow, and after a while I could see the other was Little Red. They finally headed to the corners of the box. Now want to look at the photo of CJ and the Coop. I thought I remembered seeing that last year - way cool!

I don't know about the rest of you, but there seem to be so many birds being called by initials that I have trouble keeping them straight. :girlcrazy: But I guess it is a sign of the times . . . cars used to have names and now they all have letters and numbers . . . oops, I'm showing my age! :egg11:

Loved that video, Kim. That was not the same feeding I saw earlier today. For the one I saw, they were all more toward the upper part of the screen.

What a cute and funny video, Kim. The poor one at the top of the line didn't appear to get anything. Maybe next time.

Kim - I loved your video. And you were right: Green Girl did surprise me! I couldn't stop laughing watching her wrestle with RG over the food. Green Girl was pulling so hard that I thought RG was going to fall over!

I saw another feeding earlier this morning, but it was much more sedate . . .

Great video, Kim! Green Girl sure is strong! Guess they're getting into their demanding phase & will be driving their parents nuts! :egg6:

Checked the cam a few moments ago. Three girls sprawled out in the lower part of the screen view, and one along the side next to the building. Couldn't see their right legs, only the B/G band on the one along the side.

Was watching the cam for a while this morning. Green Girl was showing her right leg in the lower right corner of the screen, so I could tell which she was. Yellow was right next to her in close to the building. Yellow was very active, and wanted to be where Green was, and kept disturbing her sleep. Red and White were sacked out next to the front of the box.
