Greg - Thanks for reporting on the varied falcon menu items! It makes me wonder what Red Girl was feeding the girls for dinner tonight. (While Little Red was late in joining her sisters for dinner, she eventually got there and made up for lost time!)

Nice the way Red Girl 2 sticks her leg out there. Good captures Ethel.

Love the pictures you posted, Ethel. And thanks for the menu report, Greg. Nighthawk may have been the meal at dusk.

The nighthawk unfortunately was caught and dropped by a falcon and flattened on 11th Street by 12:00 noon yesterday.

The evening meal may have been a pigeon whose foot and several feathers were on the Market Street sidewalk by the Dupont Building this morning. They weren't there when I walked to my car after work yesterday, but they were soaking wet, so a falcon either caught and plucked the pigeon in time for dinner last evening or first thing this morning in a break in the rain.

Another pigeon for dinner tonight?

Well whatever it was, it must have been good as the girls have been doing a lot of wing flapping since then.

Do all of the girls do this or is it just yellow feet? She walks backwards for 6 or 7 steps before she sticks her butt up in the air and poops! She's the only one I've noticed doing this so far. The rest of them seem to just stick their butts up in the air.

Great pics Ethel! :)

I do see it with other eyases as well, but not all are this "house-trained" :egg9:

The two young males in Harrisburg do that stepping backwards before pooping. Am totally bummed right now, as our adult female in Harrisburg has some sort of unpleasant injury. She looks terrible. Nobody is sure what is wrong, but there was an intruder in the area on banding day.

One of the adults was on the ledge de-feathering a bird and apparently one of the girls was pretty darn hungry and tried to jump up on the ledge! Yikes! It's a little soon for that!

Cool video, Kim. Am wondering how high that ledge entrance is? They are growing fast, too fast!

At 12:45 pm EDT Red Girl and CJ were about a foot apart on the box ledge, looking in at the kids and having a squeaky conversation. CJ took to the air and circled up over me on the garage roof across the street for several minutes. After a couple of minutes Red Girl left the ledge and flew southwest around the back of the Brandywine Building. Finally CJ headed west too. Maybe off to visit shorebirds in the marshes along the Christina River, although pigeons and mourning doves will be in view along the way.

At about 3:45 pm EDT Red Girl flew southwest past my window toward the nest site from across the Brandywine river to the northeast, the opposite direction from the course she had taken earlier. From high out in front of the nest, CJ flew to meet her. These birds get around.

Glad to hear all of that good news and how well they are doing. I agree with Kim about the nest ledge. Stay off for a while please!

We are all heartbroken in HBG with NG being in such terrible shape. Reenie saw her this morning and not since. Jane walked the streets for three hours today looking for her. Their lives hang on a thread don't they? Pictures of NG are on pages 9 on from yesterday with all the rain we had too.

Should add that Lil Dad is taking excellent care of the Boy's. He was bringing food and NG would take it. I felt she was in survival mode, as we don't know if she can hunt. Now the Boy's are fed by Dad, and he drops birds for them too for self feeding.
She has not been on the ledge at all today. Reenie has been keeping a very good watch for her and reporting to us. Especially with her filming.

Finally got a chance to check the cam this morning. Three girls in the front part of the box facing the street. Greg, that's cool to see Red Girl fly right by your window as you reported. I am so totally bummed about the situation in Harrisburg. Fledging is about a week away. Thank heavens we have such a devoted male with Lil Dad.

Was in the city today and didn't see a thing!! Darn. Looked rather closely too. I guess the heat keeps them down in mid day. Was in an office and asked if they knew about the Falcon's. The answer was No. The person said they didn't even know what a Falcon was. Asked if it was like an Eagle. Gee, I'm glad I know what a Falcon is!!LOL!!!

Faith, if the adults weren't visible on the box ledge or adjoining ledges on the building, they were feeding the kids or more likely out hunting.

I can see some yellow-billed cuckoo tail feathers on the webcam (long, black with white tips). Red-bellied woodpecker feather on the sidewalk, and a black and yellow tail feather (that I'll have to look up) on a parking grage roof.
