Short recap of today's events. Blue fledged at 6:48 this morning. We didn't know it was him at the time. Went over to the 5th Street Garage to see down inside where we were positive Blue wound up after his VERY impressive first flight. Found him sitting on a pipe thing at an AC unit on the auditorium roof. Was actually surprised to see the blue tape, as we all thought Red wound take off first. He was all over the front of the building, until he disappeared from view, yet we knew he hadn't flown anywhere. Sue and I went inside the U Building's parking garage to have look, and he had wound up in a spot he never would have been able to get out of, although he sure was trying. A contact was made to a gal from the Education Office, and she gave up some of her time to come into Harrisburg to rescue him. I won't name her on here, but if she reads this I will speak for everyone in expressing sincere thanks to her for her great work. Blue was released on the roof of the Carson Building, and we saw him at several places on there, but then he'd jump down on the roof itself. A little after 1:00 in the heat of the afternoon, Blue flew to the top of 333 Market, which was amazing to see. He spent most of the afternoon up there, sometimes disappearing from our view. Somewhere after 5:00, he flew back to the roof of the Caron Building. Then it started raining. We thought he was going to try for the ledge at some point, and around 6:15 or so is when he flew off the roof, missed a landing on the point, circled around and beelined it to the ledge. Of course those of us on the ground were cheering. Red looked flighty a couple times, but he's not worked up courage to try it. Shortly before leaving for the night we saw Lil Dad fly from the U Building to the steeple, but he left around 8:30. Lil Dad was in the area almost all day today. Hope this report isn't too full of mistakes, as I'm so tired I mearly fell of this chair.

Thanks Jane! It sounds like you had a long exciting day. I heard you cheering on Reenie's video!

Today was very long, but so exciting. Blue had a solid first flight - from the ledge, straight over the University, a big arc toward 333 and a near vertical climb up its side, almost reaching the top. Then just missing the U roof, bumping the underside of the roof overhang, flying upwards towards the ledge, but colliding with the wall around the 12th floor, circling out over the Grassy Knoll area and trying for the Carson building roof, hitting the wall around the 13th floor and dropping to the Auditorium roof. He had such a good first flight that he kept taking little short hops back and forth all across the front of the Carson building's lower roofline. There is where he ran into trouble - there is a dropoff, forming a sort of deep well between the lower front roof and the main part of the building, with skylights to provide natural daylight for the entrance hallway from 4th Street. Somehow he flew or fell into this well and could not get the lift to get out again. I was really impressed with the efforts he made to free himself - he seemed to be actively analyzing the success of each attempt and modifying his efforts in hopes of getting a better result. Once rescued he rested for a while then made a nearly effortless flight to 333, where he remained for several hours. Watching him return to the ledge so successfully was such a lift! We couldn't help cheering! I do hope that Red will save his fledging flight for Monday - there are more volunteers on Monday, and I think the more there are the better it will be.

great reports Sue and Jane. I heard you cheer and it brought a few tears to my eyes. I know the joy , at seeing them accomplish what they set out to do. sometimes your heart is in your throat.

I'M ONLY SEEING ONE BOY SITTING THERE ON THE STICK BY HIMSELF. WHEN I FIRST TUNED IN. SOMEONE WAS FLYING BACK AND FORTH IN FRONT OF THE LEDGE AND THIS ONE WAS SCREAMING. GUESSING IT WAS LIL DAD TRYING TO GET HIM TO FLY. WONDERING WHO THAT IS ON THE LEDGE NOW. DID BLUE TAKE OFF AGAIN OR IS HE GLAD TO BE BACK AND RED TOOK OFF. OR THE OTHER ONE COULD BE AROUND THE COLUMN I GUESS.

RED IS ACTUALLY SMALLER, BUT BEING AS HE WAS ON THE SHIELD YESTERDAY, I TOO WOULD THINK IT WAS HIM. WILL CALL IN A BIT TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON :-) I DIDN'T SEE HIM TAKE OFF.

APPARENTLY ONE WAS BEHIND THE ORANGE POLE THIS MORNING WHEN WE ONLY SAW ONE. LIL DAD IS ON THE STEEPLE. HOPEFULLY HE WILL GET SOMETHING AND BRING THEM BREAKFAST :-) I THINK IT'S RED BY THE COLUMN AND BLUE ON THE STICK.

Is the weather effecting the camera? When the picture of the scrape comes up it looks like it's freezing up.
