KF. . how are you getting such large pics of the nest box . .or do you have to enlarge them? Its driving me crazy. .

Anyway. . Boreas babysits while Nemaha goes to get a snack. . he always looks so puzzled when he's with the kids .. yet cute at the same time!!!

We plan to band the chicks on 5-30 at 1 p.m.. The web cams will be temporarily unavailable during the procedure.

2012 Falcon Naming Contest

•Any falcon watcher may submit a name.

•In 100 words or less, submit the chosen names for each falcon chick, your location, and why you think that is the best name. Entries may be submitted by email at Corpcomm@WestarEnergy.com

•Entries must be received by June 1, 2012.

•A group of Westar Energy employees will then choose the top five names from those submitted.

•Through an online survey, Westar will ask users to vote for their favorite falcon names.

•When the survey is available, Westar will notify falcon watchers by email.

•The survey will remain available until the first falcon leaves the nest. Once he/she fledges, the names with the most votes will be given to the birds

Stay updated on the status of our falcon couple and potential young. Falcon email notification

Caught this just after lunch today
They closed off the box and they had a spray bottle and were spraying the chicks. Maybe they had those lice they get sometimes.

Spraying the chicks gets them wet and heavy so they won't be inclined to try and fly.

That seems like a good idea, but I took these screen caps today and they banded them yesterday, so why would they disturb them two days in a row? :egg16:

I'm asking pefgirl about it she was there for the banding, Carolyn I'm going to take your pictures over so I can ask her WHY!!!! Sounds pretty wierd like you said 2 days in a row seems that would really stress them out specailly after that dam storm last night the poor babies were scared to death lightening and thunder like crazy & that wind they were hunkered down like so,eone pasted them in

Thanks kittenface. They sat in the corner for a long time after they left and the parents were screaming their heads off too! I felt bad for them. :egg15:

Here is what I have got so far from Munchie
Sadly, one of the chicks fell out of the nesting box around 6:17am yesterday morning. Westar was notified, they found the chick on a ledge below (I think it was 8 stories down), retrieved the chick and immediately took it to a Vet. The great news is, after the Vet checked the chick over with a fine toothed comb, it was given a clean bill of health. Westar then returned the chick to the nesting box at 1332 hrs EST. I captured the whole thing on video. Hopefully, I'll be able to post that same video here later on today.
