Evelyn, her death was not caused by toxins, from her migration.

I posted beginning of season what happened. I will go and retrieve it so you can see it

the resident female was found dead :cryinggirl: at end of season last year. When Gord examined further, they found she had been poisoned but not in the usual way. She had a full crop and had eaten a yellow flicker. After examining the yellow flicker ,they found that it had poison in it s system from eating ants. The ants had been dusted with a powder to get rid of them. In the process they killed a flicker and a falocn. Gord said the flicker was probably flying wonky , which was fair game for the peregrine. It is sad but this site is at the end of a residential area.

so be careful how you control your weeds and insects and everything else. It eventually ends up in the food chain

Hopefully this post helps

We try and visit this site a few times a year. I met a gentleman there that has been keeping an eye on them for years.

Happy watching

Thanks for clearing that up, bev. I had forgotten about the previous female having trouble hatching out her eggs.

Recently, I've been reading about the whole peregrine falcon history and recovery project, and read that some migratory destinations still have not banned DDT. Can't recall right now if the destinations were Latin America or South America.

Just caught a feeding and there are definitely 3 chicks, so I'll use your info, bev, for posting the 3rd hatch date being June 5th. Pics coming . . .

The male arrived with food. Female got up, took it away for awhile while the male babysat:

Can't see bands well enough to make a determination, although it sort of looks to me like there is no band on the right leg. Whatever is on her left leg really blends in with her leg.

Remind me, do they place two bands or one band in Edmonton?

Very worried about the effect of the oil spill on these peregrines as waterfowl prey will be contaminated. What a disaster for wildlife.
