I saw that, too, Elaine, but to me it looked like when they are trying to digest something. Froona explained it one time but I can't find her post now. I've seen this opening of the mouth on cams with sound where the bird will open and close its mouth a few times but make no sound. I could be wrong, but that is what it looked like to me.

Well Elaine was watching adult calling , i am on phone with Gord, relaying that message.

Gord is heading out there.

As I am posting she went into protection mode and then back down

Image

Gord is taking scope and will look around but he will pull 2 smallest chicks for sure. The smallest one , he does not think is in good condition, from pictures I sent. He is feisty, but he does not think he will last, I thought that this morning , when I saw how pink it still was.

the rest will depend on what he sees.

So we keep watching

Adult gone

I have so many tears here. I am so glad Gord is taking the youngest . I look at it and it is so pink still. It cuddles up to siblings and I just love it. It melts my heart, but Gord is right, it would not make it. I iwll miss it as it is feisty and always moves right in there for food

yes, I have a slide show.

I feel like a heel , splitting a family apart, but I feel it was the right call.
In Edmonton , my gut told me to leave eggs in and not call, but this morning, I just knew.

but these 2 little ones are bewildered

It was quick.

Gotta follow your instincts, bev. It would be too hard for just one parent to take care of 4 at this age. It is so sad to have apparently lost the male and hard not knowing what happened.

Looking forward to your slideshow.

I've got several of that one, too, Carolyn and want to go back and try to compare. I'm not sure if it's the male or female. :egg16:

Here are a couple pics of the foursome shortly before Gord arrived . . .

Gord just called me.

so the little one would not have made it past tomorrow. he was dehydrated and full of mites. Thus no fur growing in. He is going to need tender loving care. He has to be careful with how much food he gets they all have mites, but the smaller two the worst, which suck on them but Gord said the remaining 2 will be O.K. till banding next Thursday. But if they look like they are getting compromised , they will go back and dust them sooner. He did not want to go back in and stress them more today. The ones today will not be going back. They will not be ready by banding Thursday.

He feels that now with two they will get fed real well. And if food becomes an issue , they will deal with it also.

There are 2 adults there. An unbanded male and the female. so when I told Gord that I have pictures of a banded male, he said maybe he is coming back around and causing defense instead of hunt. But male came off tower as soon as they went up and female was whining.

so when Peter and Elaine and I go out there this evening, we will really look to see i f another shows up.

he told me I made a good call, but none the less I feel bad
.Show is coming

Good news bev! It's too bad they have to resort to taking the two small ones but better for all four chicks in the long run. :egg 19:

slideshow but it is pictures you have seen. Why do I feel like such a heel

http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x135 ... 5ff952.pbw

puzzling though , as we may jsut have 3 .

I will be away form 2pm tomorrow till Sunday evening. I would appreciate if some could monitor as we still need to know food is coming in and they are not being compromised by mites.
