Keeping an eye on this site this p.m.; these little tykes are due for another feeding soon. I hope mom can ignore the new guy long enough to get some food and bring it in.

It's good to see the two chicks with full crops. I wonder how the two smaller chicks are doing today.

No parent visible at the moment - can't post pics since Photobucket just stopped working. Bev, it seems that you think there is a new male at the nest?

I am somewhat concerned about the pink patches on these little guys; this could mean that the mites are really bothering them. I know the two that were removed had lots of pink areas from mite attacks. I hope that with regular feedings these two will be able to fight off the infestation.

Thanks, Carolyn, for letting us know that there was a feeding this afternoon; I did not see this.

After the feeding they did a face plant. One elder, male or female?, came back in the nestbox. No food. But no food needed because they just had enough te eat.

I don't know anything about this nest, but the elder is just sitting there, doesn't pay much attention to the chicks. It sits there and watches over them, I think.
I hope it is a good sign.

Thanks to everyone for such great coverage today, and what a relief to see so many feedings.

Elaine, if its any comfort to you, a number of nests this year had very young chicks with pink patches, but by the time they were a little older (like 3 weeks), those spots were gone. Other people were commenting about these pink patches & we all worried a bit about it, but it turned out fine.

Mom is feeding the kids again - they are looking much more lively in the last day or so, as compared to before. The more regular feedings make a difference. We even have some major wing-stretching going on!

It's great to see the chicks with full crops. Bev, I understand that you feel bad about breaking up this family; I know that the parents must be upset, and the two chicks remaining in the nest will miss their siblings, but I agree with Elaine; you may well have saved the lives of the other two chicks.
