I was just watching the same feeding, which started around 2:47 p.m. local time - can't post pics, but both chicks have fairly full crops now.

Thanks for the video, Carolyn.

It's nice to see Mom hanging out with the kids in the box for a change. She's been preening and dozing.

The two chicks are just as snug as a bug in a rug right now. Things seem to going well here, now, despite all the upheaval in the last few days. I hope they will continue to do well.

there are signs they have a few mites but they will be dusted at banding this week. these guys should be at least 16 days old day .

someone asked if I thought this was a new male.

this is the only explanation we can think off. Up to a bit ago the male would come in and deliver food. He did dish share of incubating and now you do not see him at nestbox.

When we went out there Wed evening, he did not seem to be very attentive. It was almost as if he was indifferent. And there should be no shortage of food in area.

Last year they were both there all the time. So this si the only thing I can think of. This has been a good site for food and care.

We still do nt see him in box???

These two look fluffier and healthier today, and much larger than a few days ago. I think they are awaiting a food delivery right now, and I am waiting with them.

I just received this e-mail from the folks at the Genesee Power Plant:

Quote:
On Wednesday June 20/12 at about 1:30 PM, Gord Court the Provincial Peregrine Specialist came out and two chicks were removed from the nest. According to Gord, the small one would not have survived without an intervention. The removal of the second one was a precautionary measure in the event that that the parents were having trouble feeding.

Both adults were present and quite aggressive.

The chicks that were removed will be reared off site and will be part of the release program later this summer in the North Saskatchewan River valley.

The chicks that remain in the nest are doing well. They will be banded and dusted for mites/flies on Wednesday. If they are underweight for their age, we may do something, but as of right now they look good to our Peregrine Specialist Mr. Court.

I hope this addresses your concerns regarding the falcon program at Genesee Station.

Thanks Elaine, for posting that.

Before anyone gets concerned about the release program, there was not another nest to put these 2 in as they born later than others.

I know a lot do not agree with release programs but Gord runs a great one along the Pembina river. Is that not the idea, to get here falcons trying to nest back in their natural environment. When Gord took the helicopter up last year and year before, he noticed a pair nesting along the river . Of course , you have to make sure there is a food source and there is a good one there.

He usually buys the young but these w have no other opportunity to go back to the wild , except for here.

Still have not seen a feed???? does not mean there has not been one.
