If it weren't for the videos and other picture postings, I would not be able to see this nest as the cam feed always buffers for me. In the dining video, the chicks did a pretty good job of self-feeding and sharing. :egg 19:

Today, I wasn’t able to watch the nest or even to watch video. It was the fault of the receiving network I was using, not the source. It was painfully slow. But now I am at least able to post today’s videos. Enjoy.

I enjoyed the videos, rysx. Couldn't believe when one of the chicks struck out with its talons at the feeding parent. :egg14: Hope the 3rd chick is okay; I could hear it in the foreground screaming throughout the feeding. Of course, the video where they are running and flapping all over is just pure fun to watch!

Several days ago the youngsters were rather raucous and knocked over both cameras. The staff looking after the nest decided to correct the problem. They thought that going there at night would be the best solution, because the youngsters may be asleep or at least sleepy and their senses are not as keen in the dark as during the day. So two people went there. One of the chicks decided to take flight first. It floated down but was not able to return and after a while it was found and brought back to the nest. Then the second one, probably seeing the sibling returned safely to the nest, decided to have its own adventure and jumped itself. Again the trip down and back to the nest with the objecting chick. But finally the cameras were corrected and everything returned to normal. Now we can watch the nest again, and two of the chicks had “provoked premature near-fledging”.
Recently, they exercise their wings vigorously and learn that control in flight is not easy – one has to remember so many things. You can see sometimes a chick running, flapping its wings and hitting (lightly) the wall because in the excitement it forgot to “brake”. But they are undoubtedly learning. They do not realize how lucky they are having so much space in their residence – unlike many of their counterparts living in cramped quarters of some small nest boxes.

Below some pictures of their wing flapping.

I would not have gone there to fix the cameras. could have caused the death of these youngsters.

glad they could be retrieved.

Bev, these were people who knew what they were doing, not amateurs. One was the bander, the other - the person who has been in charge of this particular nest for many years.
* * *

I saw a report few minutes ago, that one of the chicks disappeared from the nest, but nobody saw the event of fledging, it must have happened in the morning. People on campus are trying to locate the “escapee”.

I just checked Chat and apparently the first fledgling is fine and has flown at least a couple of times. He is currently right above the ledge which apparently is quite high up. :egg5:

Unfortunately, the first fledgling was just found dead from apparently hitting a window, but they are not completely sure. :cryinggirl:

There are two still on the ledge.

Oh, no! Bev and I were just talking about how happy we were that the first-fledger had been found and was o.k. I am so unhappy to read this.

In the past few minutes I saw a lot of fluttering first and then the last one flew. I very much hope this one will be all right. :girlyes: The second picture is when it took off.
