I will ask what the sexes were of the 2 that were taken form site, but I am almost certain they were males also
In regards to hacking, how do we all think peregrines came back from the brink. you could not just raise one nest at a time. They were hacked It is a very expensive venture. The food alone is costly and I do not have time to do all the reading.
I am sure only Gord is hacking and he does it with due diligence. He is not going to just hack birds and not monitor them. last year he had all but one make it , and the one that did not was injured and he had it working with a falconer.
I was not going to say anything about the hacking because I know the criticism of this practice. but I do trust Gord and his methods. He has been doing this since he was in his teens. Top priority is the nest sites . He has to buy the young he hacks. but if some have to be taken from a nest and there is not a site to put them in, he has in last year, hacked them.
Gord does not work with the Canadian Peregrine Foundation. He works within our boundaries. Gord is a very busy man. He works all over Alberta at this time of year and his job is not just with peregrines. And he does what he feels and knows is right.
What I have learned in the past 2 years , is that every area has its own rules, and who am I to question what they do. It is easy to be critical when we are watching from cams. If I do not like a practise I just quit watching. I am not perfect and have been critical in the past, but I have learned this year, that I must respect every biologists decisions. I am not a biologist, and unless they are very lazy, they know what they do.
We would like to see them do things our way
but....
