I don't know 2008 Green Girl's band numbers, but the one nesting in Cleveland is Harrisburg's 2009 Green Girl! We were so happy to learn that she survived & has a nest of her own. This Green Girl was known to us as Miss Independence & it wasn't surprising that she would survive & thrive! Thanks for the info!

Hello- While I was pondering whether there would be any room in Pittsburg for Magnum, I looked on the net to see if I could find a list of falcon nests in PA. I found a document authored by Kate St. John which has tons of info about Pittsburg falcon nests. I found out there already is a Canton falcon living in the area. She was banded as "Storm" in 2005, but is know as Val, especially by the PennDot workers in the area. Her mate is a banded but unidentified tiercel called "Brian". It seems the PennDot workers discovered Storm/Val and Brian in 2010 when they came to work on the bridge the falcons were nesting on - The Westinghouse Bridge in a suburb of Pittsburg. After Storm and Brian attacked them, and the nest identified officially, the chicks were banded as well. Happy to have found you, Storm/Val !!

That's great news, Tsusan! I have added the link to Kate's blog on the Pittsburgh nesting info so it will be handy if anyone needs it. Hopefully we'll hear about Storm's nest this year!

Matrix, I was just able to find out Harrisburg's Green Girl 2008's band number. Its 54/A (b/g). Thanks to Reenie! We tracked the subsequent years' bands better, but I guess Reenie was the only one thinking right that year! SGB scoured the forum to try to find those band numbers but was unsuccessful.

Found some close ups of Mystic from last year. All of the following pics were taken by C. Hearne.





Maurice was a sub-adult last year and behaved accordingly. I think we saw him in the nest box only once after the eggs hatched. He would only defend the nest when Mystic forced him to and then he did a half hearted flyby. However, he did perfect what came to be known as his stink eye.

Falcons were well fed while I visited yesterday. They were on the communication tower North of the Chase Tower. The activity of the area pigeons give me a clue as to whether the falcons have fed or are in hunt mode. Pigeons soaring and flapping on top and to other tops of the buildings gave away that the falcons have had a successful hunt earlier.
(When the pigeons are still, and move down to the side or lower roof tops, they are prepping to be hunted)

As Cheryl mention in her post.. We witnessed Mystic actually fly up to the communication tower and "knock" Mo off his perch when she wanted him to defend. He did oblige by flying past the tower area with the stink eye...

Planning some "out of downtown places" to view some hunting by Mystic and Mo and hopefully the teaching of hunting of the fledged young this year....

Ok Matrix, you know I dont know downtown Canton that well. I assume the circled areas toward the top of the first picture are the Chase building, the parking garage, and the communication tower. What are the locations right next to the freeway. Maybe you could put numbers on them and then ID the places in the text....? Now dont roll your eyes like that - They could stick, you know....

Went Downtown this afternoon. Parking Garage roof was closed due to not plowing snow...so I was stuck under the 5th floor...Could see pigeons all over the rooftops of Chase building and the Key building. About a half hour later all the pigeons booked it for the church rooftop. A falcon glided from the Key building area to the Huntington building, which I could not see from the 4th floor of the garage.
Two hours passed and the pigeons stayed on the church roof...Some starlings (Maybe the nestbox visitors) bunched up on the Key Building roof.
I figured i got skunked so I went to the nearby McDonalds for some treats, and while in the drivethru I spotted a falcon on the antennae of the Huntington Building. Drove up to the ground parking lot of the Chase Building and there on the antennae was our girl, Mystic!
Did not see Maurice at all, however I left before they went to roost.
