Thanks Barb....and thanks mwplay for the link to Glenn's blog...so far, I'm batting zero trying to find the 1 minute video on YouTube..

...still looking...Maybe we're just gonna have to wait for it to air on TV

I don't think he uploaded it. My interpretation from his post was he wanted to upload the video to wordpress but it wouldn't take, so he didn't load it.

limited watching next couple of days but eggs are being incubated , and I am looking for egg number 3 sometime today or tomorrow . If they stay in hard incubation then possibly 2 is it or one more as they usually start hard incubating one before last egg.

Based on all this incubation, maybe they do only have one more egg to go...guess time will tell..

That's the somewhat weird thing about Dan & Lil. It always seems they start incubation as soon as egg #1 is laid. May not be "hard" incubation, but they get on the eggs immediately.I tried looking back at the archives regarding their mock incubation habits, but don't see anything on BCAW. On the SF Yahoo Forum, there was a comment about "constant brooding seems like full time incubation" after 2 eggs. And, that's what I remember about this pair - always on the eggs after #2.

We've got cold rain and some wind here today. Over the weekend, it was in the upper 60's. Today we've got temps in upper 40's with possible thunderstorms.

The other oddities (at least to me):
-Lil stashing prey under her with her close to hatch eggs and/or newly hatched chicks.
-Lil also defeathers prey in the scrape and creates a featherbed.

thanks for that info, mwplay...

what I have noticed is from day one, Dan has been more in incubation mode and Lil has not...except for last evening and today...prior to this second egg, Dan would incubate for a while then leave...and NO Lil. Today they appear to be tag teaming it...maybe its because of the cooler temps?

It it totally possible they have started hard incubation, especially if she dropped an egg & the next egg is really #4, even though it may only be 3 in the scrape. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days.

When we had our original male at Edmonton he always did more incubating until last egg was laid.

And the female at Montreal, stashed prey under her, and to th e side . that is the reason we thought Polly, her chick from the year before, took a young chick out of box. We thought maybe she thought it was the prey that the adult female had stashed.

I remember that. Is that "Polly" the same "Polly" who nested under I think a highway with her brother?

Yes, that is the Polly, mwplay.

Those of you who have watched Harrisburg in past seasons know that Lil Dad can't wait to start incubating the eggs! :flirty: Maybe Dan is the same way.

that is how our male at Edmonton was and the biologists always worried that there would be a pipped egg.

But it all worked out

Thanks Catwoman. I remember seeing her name last year, wondering if it was the same. I know there were many who were hopeful she would have her own babies. Very sad to hear how her season went last year.

Hoping it will be a better season for her.
