"The following is a transcript of an interview I held with myself regarding the Indy Market Tower 2013 season and recent events. Believe me when I say, the interviewer didn’t hold anything back in her grilling of Laura Falconhead (LF).
Interviewer Q: The Indianapolis falcon scene has seen a lot of changes in the last 9 months. How has this impacted you?
LF A: Well, I think all my fellow falconheads know I was deeply saddened by the loss of our longtime falcon patriarch, Kinney, but glad that his body was found so we could all have closure of our loss – which I knew would/could be at anytime due to his age. So sadness and anxious – what will the future hold? I know alot of falconheads are sharing those same feelings.
Interviewer Q: It appears a new male is on the scene. How do you feel about that?
LF A: Kinney he is NOT! He is seemingly not as attentive as Kinney was. Kinney would have been in there scraping his way to the center of the earth by now in hopes of pleasing KQ (seems she is having to do that herself but without Kinney’s flourishing touches). New guy hasn’t even put his talons in the box to explore the gloriousness of this penthouse. That being said, it just proves that all falcons aren’t alike – just like us humans aren’t and it just makes the story that much more interesting.
Interviewer Q: What do you think – honestly – will happen in 2013 in regards to this falcon family?
LF A: Now that’s a toughie and I can only speak to what is in my gut. I do believe there will be a family to follow and that KQ and her new guy have been working on that out of our sight. She often is looking at somebody else just outside the box where he has been seen sitting by our eyes in the skies. I see two scrapes in the box and one that KQ seems to be particularly attracted to – as you look at the camera, it is in the upper left hand corner of the box. I say she is going to stick to her maternal schedule and mid- to late March will see the arrival of some eggs. The drive to reproduce is strong and although the new male doesn’t live up to our eggs-pectations (pretty darn high thanks to Kinney), if he delivers in the fertile department, he is okay by me.
Interviewer Q: Will the new male ever reveal himself?
LF A: HE’D BETTER (lol)! One of my earlier thoughts is that he might be the male from the IPL nest site on Indy’s southside but that conjecture is holding less appeal to me. I don’t think that male would hesitate to get in the box as he has no such reservations about entering the box down at IPL. Yes, some males are two-timers.
Well, thank you Laura Falconhead, for sharing your time and opinions. We’ll see how it all plays out – nature will have the last word. In the pics she provided, you can see KathyQ in the “preferred” scrape and a small attempt on her part to hollow out another one.
