Information from ground:

Ann posted this in SF Yahoo:

Alexea is on the ground downtown. She has seen 'Mohawk' leave the nest, cakking at another falcon that Alexea sited on an adjacent building. It had flown from the Main Street side of PGE to the Spear St. Tower. Mohawk returned to the nest a few minutes later.

Most recently, Mohawk left the nest to meet two, perhaps three other falcons over Main and Mission - then, Mohawk back to nest and the others disappearing over the Embarcadero.

~AnnG

Then one must be from this pair. What do you think Bev? No falcon would return to incubating if there were other falcons in the territory without taking care of it unless the mate was there to defend? Maybe that other pair nearby is getting too close for comfort?

No doubt in my mind that one o f the pair from this nest is trying to defend territory. on e of the two that mowhawk went to meet was probably one from this nest. From my experience

Nope!!!

Oh my...we have a "commune" of falcons flying around? Flying together? Peacefully?...Well, we've got an incubating falcon with no partner that has shown up on cam today, so if this continues, we're gonna have babies...with which falcons as parents?

Thanks for finding those, pics, Carly...and the link to Glenn's photos..gosh, those were just stunning...

This will teach me not to assume that once eggs are laid that all is well...I should have been checking in more often...

Is it possible (if Mohawk DOES NOT turn out to be Dan or Lil) that this falcon/tiercel lost nest/mate that had eggs and has just transferred incubation to these eggs/nest?

I hate to say too much as I do not know everything, I am not there but if all are unbanded, then they are really going to have to watch. And really, you hve to camp out to really know.

If mowhawk was cacking to one on a building and then went back in , I would think one on building was its mate

So, here's what I think is happening.

We've got Dan & Lil at PGE (Misson/Main/Beale)

We have a pair at Sutter street, 6 blocks away who attempted nesting in 2012. IN 2013, we know they have an egg/eggs in gutter on 111 Sutter.

If we have the Bay Bridge pair infringing on airspace - totally makes sense on why we've got 3 pairs scrambling. Each is probably trying to defend territorial boundries and the Bay Bridge pair is just leaving Dan & Lil's space to go into Sutter's space.

Wow...

Here's a idea of where they are

ETA:

Another map. Mary had mentioned pressure from bridge or Treasure Island. A= Dan & Lil, B=Sutter pair. You can see a portion of the bridge & Tresure Island on this picture. The bridge does continue past the island.

That's what I keep thinking....

They would all be in the same synch... See eggs/incubate... Forget copulation.. been there/done that.

Thanks for the maps, mw. That helps picture at least the area where everything is happening, & there sure isn't a lot of space for each pair's territory.

I am really confident that this is one of pairs from this sight. Hopefully all is worked out soon.

I still say we saw 2 yesterday. Peter needed other computer but when he is done his work I will go through footage from yesterday

Thank for maps myply. they can all exist in these territories but are not used to it so hopefully will figure it out

4pm (if you do timechange)

Off eggs and not in a hurry. Stretched and gave wings a flap

Of course cam does not follow. You would think with this situation the cam people would be on the ball

Yes, they band the chicks.

I don't know how they would catch the adults. It's a very long ledge (length of building with about 5 or 6 bays all the way down. They way we see this area (open space, ledge, huge column).. repeat that 5 times with no walls, the length of the building.

Quite honestly, they have more of a hands off approach at these nests. That's why Glenn bands at the nest, not removing the young, for a get in/get out approach. If something was to happen to one of the eyasses or adults, I don't know what would be done. SF is easier to access nest, than SJ... and we saw what happened that one year with the chick who passed a few days after birth and with Blue (passed after banding).
