I guess we need to wait now and see if this behavior repeats.

Maybe Cher had some "egg" knowledge and just needed to know Dan was going to provide for her. Right from the start, she seemed to have what I called "good instincts". She came to scrape, or at least stayed on/near ledge when Dan was away.

If Dan was on eggs during evening, we had a warm week weather wise.

I don't want to get too excited, because don't want a huge let down, but wouldn't it just be incredible if these eggs hatched and she participated. Wonder if it would be the first documented nest takeover at mid hard incubation where hatch occurred?

Better slow down... I think I'm getting ahead of myself now...

It would be the first one that I've heard of, & I'm starting to become hopeful for those eggs!

I've said before that just when we think we've figured out how these peregrines will behave, they prove us wrong! Who would'a thought a prior-year subadult would help her parents with the current season's babies, but that's what happened at Aria & Vento's nest in Italy last year!

And remeber Polly at Quebec

I am not sure who is who, but one on the ledge eating and one across the way on another building. After eating it flew off the ledge and about a minute later one of them got on the eggs. This was at 830pm DST.

Fantastic Bev! I know I had to do a double take & thought for sure she was going to pop up after 30 seconds. What a long and wonderful 1200 seconds!

Now we just need a repeat!

I'll keep cam on eggs and report back later with a recap...unless something major happens like Cher incubating or laying an egg... :girlyes:

7:27~looks like Cher has just appeared on cam..hopped into nest box, looking at eggs...vocal

7:49...picking at gravel, back to cam, she is on the other side of the eggs..walking to the left back corner...back facing eggs, picking gravel around them, now scraping..she is on top of eggs, covering them, and up, moving to box edge...and gone at 7:51..

Cher covering for about 3 seconds..not incubating this time..

Image

OK..here's a BIG "what-if"...

Dan and Cher are canoodling
Cher is "pregnant" or gravid----->leading to increased interest in the eggs as prep for laying her own..

Big what-ifs, I know..guess time will tell...

Well, I think Dan might be supplying her with prey. They did witness 1 possible prey exchange a few days ago - Cher snagged food from Dan - but that's what a lot of falcons do during courtship.

Bev got Cher eating on ledge, with Dan in distance and looked to me like he was wiping his beak.

Interesting... Big What-if, but Good What-if

That's kinda what I was thinking. If she's getting ready to lay eggs, she would be developing a brood patch which may increase her interest in the eggs.

Well, bummer

8:39~dan finally returns and gets on eggs..cher must have been right behind him as she enters from the 6 o'clock position. the talk, bow, then dan leaves..

Cher is currently standing outside the box...

so, Technically, eggs have been uncovered since cam got light..
