Ground reports from Craig posted on SFBAY Raptors Yahoo forum:

Did a quick cursory check of the TWB a little before 1PM today. As I was beginning to drive away, a juvenile peregrine came flying in from the NE to land on a southeastern ledge. It is unbanded. It may be difficult to see as it seems to like to sit back against the building, lower on the building than other peregrines we've seen there.

The TWB is not far from City Hall (San Jose Peregrine Wiki indicates a little more than 1 mile N of downtown) and I believe when FC showed up in San Jose, he was first spotted on the TWB with Taylor. (TWB stands for Tall White Building).

Maybe the juvie strayed in to the territory and this is what Clara was responding to earlier around 2:08PM.

I haven't had much time to watch the cam today, but do check in and it seems like everytime, there is nobody on the chicks. :girlsad3: I checked the temps there about an hour ago and it was 65, which isn't really all that warm. I just hope nothing is going on that's going to cause the chicks a problem. Here's a picture of Clara taking a break a little while ago, and nobody was on the chicks at the time.

Dinnertime!

It's really very nice today. I know Clara was sunbathing earlier today (someone asked on the forum). I found it a little odd that she left them around 2pm for a few minutes. Years past, I always thought a parent was with them.

If you were going to check a temp, Wunderground at SJSU would probably be the closest weather station. They had a high of 68 today.

I just checked the archives from last year... she did the same think 1 day after hatch (4/9) - sunbathing. About 2 days after hatch, we had wet weather. My post last year had me worried something was wrong!! :sum5:

The camera never did zoom so couldn't tell how much they were getting, but the feeding was very short and the prey look more like a two day old leftover. I'm hoping I just missed an earlier feeding and they weren't hungry this time. :sigh

I don't think I've ever been satisfied with the first couple of days, no matter the nest.

Hey mwplay, just gearing up for panic mode here. Just in case it's needed.

I'm starting to hope that 4th egg doesn't hatch. It's getting late.

I get panic mode. I feel like it has been like that everywhere this year. Doesn't feel very good, you know what I mean? Things feel very unsettled at a lot of the nests I follow.

I know what you mean about the egg. I don't like when they are spaced too far apart. We've got the weird situation in San Francisco. If Cher continues to lay eggs, they are going to be staggered hatches because they were already in hard incubation with Lil's eggs. And something in my gut tells me these two are still mating. If they go to 6 eggs (3 Cher's + 3 of Lil's), Dan's going to have a REAL hard time covering all the eggs. He can do 5 now, but his incubation posture has changed. Poor guy. I feel for him.

Getting to see one good feed before I close down. The one falling over in my picture got a really good bite right before, in fact, he's passed out right now. :flirty:

mwplay that situation in SF is just too sad. I can't see how it will be ok.

Only one left standing here, so goodnight.

Oh my word, Clara is stashing the leftovers at the end of the runway in that corner. Bless her heart.

FYI... posted on SJ Yahoo Group:

UCSC Student Prey Study has Begun

Good Morning Everyone - Glenn's UCSC students begin their prey study today, so they have taken over camera operations in order to obtain the necessary information they require.

The study will go on thru April, ending when the juvies are ready to fledge approximately May 10th.

Please be patient, kind & considerate as they do their best to please their professor and us, the public viewers :)

Have a Great Day - enjoy the view & experience as we watch the little baby Falcons grow & progress!

Jody

Their prey study?? All the way thru to fledge?? :ohboy:

Well, if they follow the prey, they'll have to focus on the chicks eating it right? I mean the prey won't be anywhere the falcons aren't so it's ok.

Another feeding going on. I've seen at least one other for sure. The one in the back of the group was actually stealing prey from another's mouth already it looked like.

They're still eating. They all must have pretty much gotten their fill cause they can barely keep their heads up!

Too sweet. It always amazes me to look back at the early shots of the babies in a little pile to see just how much they grow in such a short time.

Yes, they grow entirely too fast!

The hoodlums learn quick down here...

I always thought it was funny how Clara's crew runs wild and will try to eat Mom & Dad if they don't feed them fast enough whereas, Lil's group in SF were always well behaved in a row, waiting their turn!

:hahah
