It's a grebe..

Those are the ones with the big feet we see FC bring Clara on the louver sometimes.

He loves those aquatic birds. I wonder how many pigeons he actually brings in versus these birds.

I'll have to ask Glenn. He will know. His students are doing the prey study. Wonder if they track the species, or just the number of feedings.

I can't believe how fast they grow! They are moving around already!

Sorry to hear that meals weren't as frequent today. I guess at any nest when its raining, its difficult to hunt. Not too bad if its only one day. Of course, I guess that where the food cache becomes necessary. Great pics of these little darlings today--thanks!

Especially the one that had been in the back. :hapdance:

Surely they are looking at what kind of prey, otherwise they wouldn't need to keep the camera zoomed in so long on the prey just to count it. If they are just counting it, I'm gonna be ticked. :girlyes:

Well it's hard to see the chicks right now, but I know they are eating, so I'm happy.

Guess that's FC on the box making sure they're protected until Clara returns. Maybe she's having a bite herself.

Jody posted this on the San Jose Yahoo forum:

Breakfast was later than usual - I was beginning to get as concerned as Clara - wondering where Fernando was, She was on the ledge looking for him 4 different times... Hunting must have been unusually difficult

I watched 1 preen ! My gosh, already they are running their beaks through down

9:22am Fernando brings prey - large and prepped - the 3 ravenous little ones got their fill.

4:30pm I am advised there was a prey delivery, it too must have been a large meal. 3 pancaked little ones sprawled out

5:15pm Another meal - all 3 are out of the nest cup and closer to Clara as she plucks the prey to feed them !

7:27pm Fernando once again delivers ! Clara meets him at the corner ledge to retrieve it and although she leaps from the ledge with it, she quickly returns for a feeding.

Tomorrow's another day - they will have grown some, and it will be more challenging for our Clara to keep them close in the coming days :)

They had a long stretch from breakfast until 4:30!

Thanks for posting that report mwplay about the food deliveries. I think that I must have been watching during that long stretch. Figures.

Clara with her babies, they are spread out. Sorry about the narrow picture, have multiple cams up. :-)

Yes catwoman, that egg had been a worry to me. I guess I shouldn't have worried as they had been away from the chicks and off that egg for long periods of time anyway.

Thanks for the feeding pics, ljames! :flirty: They must have gotten enough to eat judging from the crop sizes I'm seeing!

More food was just brought in and they are eating. Cam not zoomed so far but they all seem to be getting equal shares. I think 3 are much easier to manage .

They are getting the hang of this eating thing and taking much bigger bites and grabbing it.

Earlier.

:flirty:

Then about an hour and a half ago.

Does this not look like 4 chicks? :girlcrazy:

The prey wasn't that big, but their crops were big so I imagine they ate while I was out to eat.
