Carly isn't nature great? We humans need to take lessons from them.

I'm so happy to see baby & the rest of the family adjusting to having their family whole again! I would have been a bit nervous, but since I knew it worked out well for the small one at James River last year, & Bev (& perhaps Carly too) has said that in Canada there have been several instances of having to foster a chick out because a parent died or was injured & that falcons make great foster parents, so I was pretty comfortable with the situation. So glad baby is with his family now & appears to be healthy! :flirty:

CJ was so cute just now. He came into the box and checked out each chick. I'm wondering if Red Girl asked him to find out if the kids needed dinner yet. (If so, I'll bet the chicks said "yes." They're really growing fast!)

Also, I've been watching for the color of the chicks' feet. Two of them in the second picture have yellow feet, and the other has white feet. I'm still waiting to see what color the fourth chick's feet are.

There's nothing like a parent bringing dinner to get the kids running out of the corners!

P.S. I missed catching the cutest shot of all while I was processing pictures: two of the chicks were playing tug of war with one morsel of dinner.

Carly - That was a great story you posted about O'Connor. It's so nice that adult peregrines can so readily become foster parents to others' eggs and chicks. Plus it reminds me of the falcon pair in Sweden, I believe, that couldn't produce their own eggs; nevertheless, they would patiently incubate chicken eggs that were placed in their nest until such time as orphaned peregrine chicks that needed fostering were available; then the chicken eggs were replaced with the orphaned chicks, and the falcon pair accepted and raised them as their own.

Gord has always said , that they will incubate anything and will readily raise young that are not their own.

Gord put an extra chick in Red Deer two years ago and it did well. Gord is famous for doing this. the only time it was not successful for him was a few years ago in Genesse. he thought he might miss time line but tried anyhow. he did it several times at U of A nest.
It also did not work in Winnipeg that one year as it was way past her hormonal instinct. That is the key. If they are on eggs, easy. If they already have chicks easy.

Gord likes to use Dummy eggs. last year he ha d to take eggs from Miss Edmonton and put dummies in becasue of disturbances.
He had to give her a 10 day old chick back . You do not want to give them really young chicks , just in case , as they need to be covered.

I am so happy here  :loveshow:

Went to Tri-State Bird Rescue Open house this morning. No wonder the little one did so well. Got wonderful food and care there. That place is the BEST! Put pictures on Facebook. They are set up for anything.

Red Girl was sitting on the box ledge a few minutes ago when CJ flew up, calling, and perched on the ledge farthest to the left as you face the building from the parking garage roof. I didn't see any prey. Red Girl got up and flew past him southeast down 11th Street. A non-event, except that it's always nice to see both of them at once.

New feathers include pigeon and grackle.

Don't mean to Bogart this site but about an hour ago (1:10 pm EDT) I was in the cafeteria in 1203 N. Market (the building where Kim works), looking out the window across 13th St. at Hercules Plaza (where I work). A great blue heron was flying southeast down 13th St., about level with the roof of the 12 story building so maybe 120 feet up. Maybe headed back to the Pea Patch Island heronry with fish for his kids.

All of a sudden the heron turned left on Market Street and dove steeply down, as CJ plummeted vertically after him him, going very fast. They quickly were out of sight toward the Brandywine River to the northeast but when I walked over a few minutes later I didn't find any casualties.
