Her leg strength to fat ratio got more conducive to jumping.

Well, despite my best efforts to be watching continually, I missed seeing her get up there. Can't see any of them now, but saw one a few minutes ago. Don't think it was her, either. Great pictures, ljames.

yeah !!! :loveshow: :loveshow: :loveshow:

and REd girl would not let her starve. one day will not hurt them
Just want to thank CRaig for all he does and to all who watch here and try to get solutions.

would not hurt to put in ramp and food as a precaution, but...

I was thinking that new male took responsibilities real quick. Usually they do not step in so soon. sometimes not at all.

(We had a new male after chicks wre hatched in Genesse last year and we almost lost 2 chicks because Female appeared to have to do all hunting and feeding. you could almost pinpoint when it happened, as feedings went down considerably. And of course when they are defending hunting goes down. It improved later on. there again Gord stepped in and removed two chicks)
Sorry I keep talking about stories other than here but just trying to give some perspective.

Go Wilmington

Great news about Orange making it up to the ledge earlier today.

One of the chicks (not Orange) just dropped down into the nest box for a visit. Such a cute face!

Am wondering if that's Blue in the box right now. Looks big. And now two in there. One is acting like it's possessed by demons. And I see a third one on the ledge.

I think the smaller one is White, but I don't know about the larger one. There's a third chick up on the ledge watching all the action too.

Still see one on the ledge. Another one is in the bottom corner of the screen. Am not going to be able to watch much longer. :-( Just noticed a tail up there on the ledge that I didn't see before. One has moved from view on the ledge now.

Not totally sure, but I think Orange is back in the box. And now I can't watch for a while.

It was mostly definitely Orange. Trying and trying to get back up on the ledge, and pacing back and forth in the box. Could see some sort of activity on the ledge, but don't know what the activity was. And now I don't see Orange. She was in the upper left corner, and maybe got herself back up there. Am going to post this, and then must step away for a while.

Nice dry feathers blowing around, the sidewalk and garage roof, all new since the rain yesterday afternoon: two pigeons, one mourning dove, one red-bellied woodpecker, one grackle and one small songbird. I expect that some of this was contributed by the new male.

Thanks for the report, Greg. I hope he's contributing some of that to Red Girl for the chicks, and not for himself. It is SO frustrating to not know if the chicks are being fed.

Wow! You miss a lot when you work part time in the mornings. Thanks for all the "good" news today. Craig, thank you for your caring heart and devotion. I too would like to meet him someday.
Greg thanks for the feather report on the street. I'm sure they are being fed now, and I'm sure many feathers blew away with the strong breeze we have today.

Life goes on, just as it does with us humans. "There may be pain for a night, but there will be joy in the morning". A lesson learned by all.

I'm so sorry to hear about CJ.

I was just looking back at posts from April, and on 4/24 at 8:08AM ET Catbird commented: Where are RG and CJ? The chicks have been alone in the nest for quite some time now

Both Catbird and Reenie posted pictures on 4/24 of a feed... I don't think the parent has bands in the pictures posted 4/24/13 @ 8:08AM ET & 8:12AM ET

Good catch, I agree. Tiercel without bands, so changeover had happened by April 24.

Onthe other hand, Terka's pictures from April 19 at 12:30 pm show a tiercel with black and green bands:

viewtopic.php?f=337&t=1596&start=140

So the change in tiercels happened sometime in the span April 19-24.

Thanks, Greg, for providing the span of dates when the new male appeared. And thanks, mw, for locating the first pictures of the new male on April 24.

Red Girl was just in the nest box, and now it's Orange.

Oh my, it looks like prey was delivered for Orange into the nest box. I wonder if Craig did that just now as I was posting these pictures.
