Posted at their blog yesterday - they are going to collect the eggs. I'm really sad that the second clutch didn't hatch. It's never easy watching these beautiful creatures sit on eggs that won't hatch
San Francisco May 9: For almost 3 months, this is the scene falcon-watchers have been observing on the camera--an incubating falcon. Now the second clutch of eggs (six total in the nestbox) has gone beyond the possible hatch window. Soon, we will collect the eggs and deliver them to colleagues who study emerging organic contaminants among sentinel species. Just as a follow-up...Glenn Stewart posted this on the SF Yahoo Group this morning when several posts went back and forth regarding removing the eggs and allowing Dan & Cher to potentially recycle:I am permitted to collect addled eggs "after the nesting season." That includes eggs that remain in the nest when three week old young are banded. It is less clear what it means when we have birds that continue to incubate, even though WE have counted the days and know they are done. I do not know any other way than to be completely frank: they have their eggs and I have birds fledging in San Jose right now, fledging at my hack site tomorrow, and many more young to band. I would like to have those eggs for analysis but I am not inclined to rush up there to take them from incubating birds, possibly pushing Dan toward a third round of incubation. At times like this I like to ask myself what would happen if there were no camera, no public constituency? I would wait. --glenn@scpbrgBased on his message today, unless there is a change in plans, it might be awhile before they remove the eggs....
