Hope that nest visit built back his confidence...It may be a "mind game" at this point...During the video it seemed he got swooped at twice...

I know Carly...

I'm going to continue to hope here.

At least DC returned to the box, so Beauty could see him. That to me is dedication.

If that's not him up there on Chase, I'm hoping he went back to BS to rest again. I would think if that was new guy, and they did battle, I think he would be back at this box to "claim" his territory... just like DC did when he came home, letting him know it was his box...

Carly...He will be ok! He just got the wrong end of a fight for his first time...
They could have encountered guy wires or electric wires even, while chasing each other earlier...If he rests up..his memory of his eggs will bring him back...he needs to get his confidence back...unfortunatley UT is going to do everything he can to keep DC on edge...
It is a waiting game now....

Joyce: 8:49pm Streetlights are on, but I can still see a falcon on SW corner of Chase. He's keeping an eye on all of DT and buildings to the south. Nite!

Okay.. here's my theory...

If patterns hold true...

UT spent the night on TSB, courting B, talking all night long. If that bird comes to TSB and talks all night long, then I would think it is UT.

But the way the new bird was quiet today, not very vocal at all, makes me believe it was a new bird.

We will have to watch what B does now that the sun is down. She seems much calmer now than she has all day long.. at least to me.

I think it's a different male..

The "new" bird really did not display the same behaviors as UT did during the day.

This bird may have just come back to the box to see if he could make it in, but B isn't having anything to do with him.

Good..

What I don't understand is B not getting some cached food and eating. I know she's protecting her eggs but somewhere self preservation has to come into play. I'm sure she went to sleep with a full crop last night so how long does food there last? DC always roosts at BS-even when there have been threats DT so I would think he went back there, if he's capable, but no one seemed to check there once they were DT.

I'm hoping the same Carly.

And, I think my personal favoritism for DC is clouding my belief that this could be UT.

I'm sorry, but DC fought for this box. Provided for Beauty... Is loyal and dedicated.

This male did not bring ANY food to B today.. not a good provider.

So, I need to calm down and watch what tomorrow brings.. and pray for DC and B and P.

She can go awhile without eating Kris. By morning she will start to realize things but for now she knows her mate is alive ..or thinks he is. She's a faithful mate, even though they had a rocky start - he's the father of those eggs. She has been through failed nests and that is what will happen here if this guy can't provide. This new guy wants to court, he's in another space and she'll end up doing all the work.

Sometimes a new tiercel will be really great and be a good step father and other times, they just try to court the female. They wont' hurt the kids but they won't brood them, they won't feed them and they won't help with fledge..they will just kind of keep courting the female and may provide food to her.

It's just a bad time right now. If a cold snap comes and she has to get off those eggs and a warm body isn't on top of them...well they won't make it out alive. He has no brood patch....and likely won't be getting one this year.

Pray she only has 2 hatches, that she can handle while dealing with him..any more than that and like at other nests we've seen they may have to remove some so the female can handle it on her own.

I did find this about crops:

Birds have a specialized digestive system that gets food quickly into the bloodstream. Raptors, like most hunters, never know when their next meal will be; they must be well adapted to feast and famine. In their esophagus is a crop, an enlarged area that allows for the ingestion of large amounts of food. With a full crop, a raptor can survive five to seven days without eating.

Thanks for that information, Kris...I knew they could last a couple of days, I had no idea they could go that long without a feed!!!
