Boy's are looking good...in their camo...

Was busy with Mom all day today. When I read the news of Maurice, my heart went out to Mystic. Thanks everyone for all the info. Just checked and Mystic is in the box with her sleeping "little men" I hope Mo is released back to us soon.

My husband and I also visited the top floor of the parking garage this afternoon, around 4:00, in order to view Mystic and the nestbox. When we first got there, Mystic was on "the mast", seeming to be scanning the skies for Mo. After 15 minutes, however, she suddenly took off so quickly I couldn't follow her with my binoculars. Lowering my binoculars, I saw she was going after an unlucky Turkey Vulture who had wandered into her territory. Even my husband exclaimed at her speed, and the way she swooped at the TV, knocking him off balance several times. Finally, the TV took the hint and flew quickly away. Mystic returned to the mast for a bit, and then headed east toward the Key building, scaring up some pigeons. I expected her to return quickly with prey, but she didn't. I started scanning the nestbox. I could see little white heads bopping around on the "porch" area, an extension of the nest box, a sort of "final frontier" for an exploring chick. To my HORROR, one of the chicks hopped up on the lip of the porch!! Any gust of wind could have knocked him off, possibly to his death! He perched there for about 30 seconds, then hopped down... A couple minutes later, Mystic circled in with a fat pigeon. She landed on the porch, and fed the boys right there. I could hear their peeps of joy even 9 stories down, from our spot on the parking garage.... By the way, the cam does not show what goes on on the porch. If she has been feeding them out there more, we wouldn't know it......

when this happened at a site in ontario a few years back, the male was hurt and another male was on scene but the female continue dher cuties and some of us watched the cam around the clock to keep track fro people there , and the 3 fledged successfully. One has its own nest site now.

Great you checked on her and got to see the action we have talked about and tried to describe!! Wonderful that Bill and you got to see the stoop! Stephanie was up there around that time too!!
And yes..when the juvies get close sometimes they do fall off...
(Peenie did that last year and Bravery got blown off in a wind gust)
So now with just Mystic feeding... they will get rowdy..and it is likely there will be some that fall...Don't mean to cause panic or stress, it's just likely... given the situation...The cam can only show so much...

Correct SGB..it is a stationary cam. BTW...There is a large gutter below the edge of the railing that is metal and would be hard for them to scramble up the sides..but it may have caught more than it's share of exuberant juvies in the past...
Last year the juvies would lay in it and couldn't see them at all!!

What's that black thing I see on the porch?

Maybe it's the pigeon wing...Is it still there? Or was it the juvie's wingtip as it lay mostly off cam?

To me, it doesn't look like anything that belongs there....

Scroll up the page to the pics from this morning's feeding...The wing is there and easier to id since it is upside down. Yesterday the boy's played with it when it and another wing were in the box...they carry it around and then practice grabbing it with their feet...Fun to watch!!
