It is my displeasure to announce we have lost "Ice" 31/D..to an apparent window strike...Chris Saladin saw and retrieved his body from the roof of the Court building (Police department)....

Sad day for us and Pittsburgh. Eloquent post on the Facebook page Matrix. He was a character and even though his time was shorter than we would have liked, we will certainly be talking about his escapades for years to come. Hope you're still flying high just out of our sight range.

While we did have terrible storms and very high winds, window deaths are preventable.

I re post this saying often

When the last tree is cut down,
The last fish is eaten,
And the last stream is poisoned,
You will realize that you cannot eat money.

It's a poignant statement on our society and what we value. Some of us, Canton and PA, lost something very valuable today. We are no different than other sites, our lose came at a later date. It was bound to happen, a matter of time and space. What we do with it matters. Window deaths don't have to occur at the astounding rate that they do. Get the word out, put something in those windows!!!

Want to share Matrix's post on Ice, Truly beautiful.
To have felt the wind beneath him and to have it lift him up to the bottom of the clouds, to have chased his brothers and his mother...to have seen the world below from his peregrine's eyes...seeing in a way we humans dream about...Ice did this! He lived! And he died by it. Trying to not be sad, and instead to think of the others that never made it as far as he did...We know they all can't make it, that is the law...and we enjoyed the sights of an exuberant youngster, learning the ways, that was cut short, as so many before him were. Lets celebrate the fact that he got to be what he was meant to be, for however brief time he was his own master of the air.....

I cannot hold back the tears. Words spoken here is how we all feel.

MIne have just hatched and I know the feeling of loss. I do a watch because of windows. WE try so hard to get compliance . That is why When Gord says he is going to take a chick to hack on Pembina, I am so happy.

To see these young juveniles fly in cliff areas where they should be, is just amazing. We are hoping to see the first come back there next year. I knowthere are mortality rates in wild also but then it is nature.

But I am also grateful that I get to watch them grow and fly at our site, even though it has its dangers

I loved all the antics of ICE and will not forget. You brought him to life through your wonderful picutres and stories
