Sweet little Chase brought in a scrap and began to feed the chicks, but R said, not so fast, and took the prey to feed. The little chick on the left got a bite but the chick on the right, that you can't even see in the shot, darted across and took the bite out of it's mouth.

never fear here, these chicks are very well fed.
R will come in with just a tidbit and then Come back with a big feast. Chase has been coming in and topping up after R and then when Chase feeds and R lets him, she comes in a bit later and tops up.

It has been very hot but they do get shade for most of afternoon.

Peter an d I have been taking time to drive to 3 of our sites in city and checking that all is well., in this heat( thus I have not had time to post my picutres)
When you do not see R and Chase they are by nest box or on roof of clinical just across in shade

WEber

They have it the worst of the sites but we see them taking food in so chick or chicks must be doing O.K. Miss E is a trooper and the new male seems excellent. His coloring is so clsoe to MIss E, would not be surprised if of her offspring. ( a suspicion of mine)
these guys are a week behind Edmonton university

Will try and post picutres. Trying to take in Canada day with family as well

thanks for watching an d posting

Thanks Bev
For all the updates . I have been to the nests and must pick the wrong time. Before the heat wave, I could find both R and C on the Maz. But, I can not be in the sun, so I will be watching from the shade.

I'm glad all the little chicks are as old as they are. I don't think really little ones would hold up in such heat. I see that the high was 92 today up there . Heck, it was only only 91 here. The rains have kept things cooler than normal here though. Looks like your temps will be better over the next week to 10 days.
Wait, didn't we use to have a smiley with a fan?

Their little crops are pretty full and two are sprawled out in the box, hot and sleepy.

This little chick is so funny, it kept falling asleep and nearly tumbling over several times. That's the black and white prey head beside the chick. Pretty big for just the head.

Chick gets in some self feeding with it.

Maybe it was a Common Merganser. Did Radisson bring it in, they are a fairly large duck? I couldn't find very many ducks with a red bill.

we will not have our few pictures of banding done till later but Jean sent me these and I took video off cam

I never hold the chicks. I do not want to get too attached. But I did today. A few claws dug in but what the heck.

And Chase was just brilliant with his flying. Radisdon does flybys but sits across and just stares us down.
