I received an e-mail from Elise today. she has been on 2 maternity leaves but is back part time.

she has put substrate gravel were eggs are and is hoping Eva will make a scrape. \i did suggest a wooden tray also

She said safety has tot take precedence. So even though Eva may not be as aggressive as sheila , the box will not be put back on tower. I asked if box could be put there. I am not sure of building she is on . so \i asked if it was like Genesse.

I did offer to get them in touch with some biologists here to help out.
She said the box was put where it was as an effort to do something. She is trying.

here is the link she sent

I'm glad to hear that Elise is back. I'm sure she will do what she can to give these 2 a chance at having a family.

Thanks for the pictures, Ferenz!

Alcoa Anglesea Peregrine Falcon Webcam-2013 Archive

Wednesday 09 October, 2013
This image (apologies for it's poor quality) shows the two eggs sitting in the makings of a scrape on the coal bunker. Nice work Ava. It looks like the eggs are sitting tight, no longer rolling the length of the beam. Only time will tell if the effort enables the eggs to be successfully incubated and hatch.

Boy that picture is bad but you can see them

I updated the nesting calendar to reflect 2 clutches with the 3rd and 4th eggs laid sometime between 10/2 and 10/9.
I hope 3 & 4 fare better than the first 2! :loveshow:
EDIT
Am I figuring this correctly or are these the 2 eggs that were laid in September and we still have a nest failure....

That I don't know, I thought it was the first clutch, the way they write has me in circles. :girlcrazy:

I'm confused too...I thought this was the first clutch as well...No?

I don't think we know when the eggs were laid...only that they reported 2 eggs on 9/18

When I went to the calendar it was noted nest failure, but there were no dates anywhere., just egg egg and nest failure. I got the impression that we are hoping these eggs we are seeing now will hatch so I assumed [always dangerous] that these were new eggs. Oh, I am confused and hope I have not added to anyone else's confusion. Feel free to change the nesting calendar if you think what I have is incorrect.... :girlcrazy:

LOL...I just went and looked at the Calendar revision history...Nest Failure was next to Orange, CSU...it was never next to Alcoa... :teehee: ...Probably the "nest failure" you saw on the Calendar was for the 2012 season....maybe?

Actually, I did see that by CSU Orange. What I changed was at Alcoa. Before I made the changes, the first and second eggs were just noted as egg egg with no date and then nest failure was there, also with no reference to a date. Someone before me evidently put those on the Alcoa nest. I completely changed Alcoa by putting the September dates for the first and second eggs [from the blog] and noting the first clutch failed based on what was already there. I then added 3rd and 4th eggs as new. If you want I can change it back to what it was, but I have never thought just putting the word egg provided much information. Just my opinion. Let me know if you want me to change it back, or leave it as I updated it.

Oh my gosh, I just figured out what I did wrong and have changed it sort of back to how it was. When I saw the nest failure notation, I did not realize that was in the 2012 1st egg column. Since there were no dates, just egg egg, It looked like that all went together. Now what I have done:
1. leave the dates for the 1st and 2nd eggs , like this ~9/18 [someone told me that was how we were supposed to note an undetermined date] and made the type black again.
2. removed the 3rd and 4th eggs dates of 10/2.
3. noted "2012 nest failure" back in the proper column for 2012.
Here is what it looks like now
Image
Basically it is back the way it was with a few little differences. Now I know what SGB was talking about when shementioned 2012. At the time it didn't register with me since I knew I was on the 2013 calendar!
I truly apologize for the trouble and confusion but I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT and now I am doing the :hapdance: :hapdance: :hapdance:

For Peregrine Falcons, the incubation period is 33 to 35 days from the date the last egg was laid. How long the eggs had been on the bunker before they were discovered in mid September is uncertain. If we were attentive and found the eggs soon after they were laid, 28 days have past today and we're only days away from finding out if the nest has been successful this year. Cross your fingers!
