I'm going to leave the recorder on, but I need to make bed, shower & start laundry. I've been sitting here most of the day being lazy while Hubby is being productive by going to gym

I've been gone all day, but just wanted to pop in and thank everyone for the coverage...and to Beth for calling and letting me know about sweet Diva.. :sorrow:

so I wouldn't have to find out when I checked tonight...so very, very sad..

So sad about Diva. I really hope that Zeus holds his ground in the nest box with a female this year! I am not aware of any other nest boxes in our area...not to say that there aren't, I just am not aware of them.

I'm sorry to hear about Diva, she sounded like she had a great lineage and definitely she had a lot of spirit. I will miss seeing that little ruffly bird, although I was wondering if she could produce fertile eggs this season. Leeper Park, where Diva was found is just a short distance from downtown and right next to the St. Joseph River. I'm glad she had care at the end, thank you Carole !

I think that the closest one is Michigan City, about 41 miles away.

Thanks for the link sbwatcher. I saw it was from last summer. Changes since then...

If anyone gets the Indiana DNR magazine, Outdoor Indiana, there is a nice article about John Castrale's career. I tried to find the article online, but that particular story was not highlighted.

11:28 - Zeus was in the box for several minutes (5+). I think he was doing some scraping. I think Scarlet came around because he started bowing, then took off really quickly.

11:36 - Scarlet was in the box for a few seconds, then jut left.
11:37 - she's back on deck.

Lots of comings and goings this morning. Seems like they are getting more comfortable with each other.

Confirmed ground sighting of two falcons :sham6:

About 6:55 p.m. I saw both birds, one on the NE corner ( Scarlet, I think ) and one on the SE corner. Scarlet was turning slowly and bowing a bit. By the time I parked my car to get a better look, both birds had gone. No birds in the nest box as of 7:10.

From the pictures and videos that folks have posted here, Scarlet seems like an aggressive bird, but that's not a bad thing for a falcon mom or hopeful mom-to-be. Baby falcons need lots of protection and food. :popc:
