Bird Cams Around the World

Hi all - I was just thinking about the drama at the nestbox yesterday. I've never seen Mystic so aggravated on a banding day. And I have never seen a chick resist being grabbed like the little one did yesterday. It was kicking with its talons furiously. Usually they offer no resistance at all. Im wondering if it resisted so strongly because it observed Mystic being so upset? Or does this baby just have a more stubborn personality? Just wondered what people think......

Cute Terka. I guess they are none the worse for wear. These are after the food exchange we witnessed. It got a little botched up in the air because we think the prey was still alive. Mystic did retrieve it and took it to the tower
and relieved it's suffering.

Yeah, the talon punctures on Laurie's arm were interesting....

Mystic stabbed Laurie's arm, but she took it in stride... love how she played it down in the article...When I was taking pics from the garage during the banding, Mystic was in the box blocking Laurie and attacking her, but no one caught it on cam, and from my vantage point on the garage, I can't photograph inside the box... But she was inside the box attacking when they were trying to remove the chicks...

TSusan...hope you can get a snip or two sometime! Better yet...try video recording if you have Hi-Speed!! LOL
The stills are too far apart in the archive to capture all the action...But...I think You were right in what you saw...Mystic was attacking Laurie and the last chick was fighting back...i am not sure if that was when she nailed L's arm or if it was before...because she went into the box out of my view three times.....then, when Laurie couldn't get ahold of it, Jeff had to put down the shield and came in from the front of the box, and it took him two try's because Mystic went for him and he couldn't hold the shield and climb up to the entrance at the same time...
that last chick sure saw Mystic right in there attacking them...so it may have become more mean seeing it's momma attacking too! It's obviously in a peregrine's nature! Got several pics of feathers flying out of the box on the facebook page...

So if SW needs to be the winner, than she is...but our winner is Mystic .... Although many many Falcons out there have done worse than either of these two...Personally, I think BB from Buffalo is a winner...she took on a person that most likely teased her, and lost her home because of it.....

Thank you everyone for putting in your ideas about the exciting banding day! Some how I have a feeling we will see Ms Reign again in two or three years.... She's a feisty one! Cheryl, great pictures! I especially like the 4th one in the set - beautiful! I can almost hear her singing " I am Mystic, hear me roar"!! (with apologies to Helen Reddy)

Well a mom has to do , what a mom has to do.

Did you know Mystic has a sense of humor? She flew in with prey, and two babies trotted up to her stomping their feet and flapping their wings a little. She began feeding them, quickly tearing off pieces and feeding them to the chicks.... The third chick stood back for a bit, looking expectantly but receiving nothing as he wasn't very close. (Must be Meek?) She went back and forth between the 2 chicks, with one grabbing at the food aggressively. (Meek?) came closer, and tried to lean in a bit but the gobbler wouldn't let him in... Mystic pulled of a large piece of prey, and virtually stuffed it in gobbler's mouth, leaving him bobbing his head and working his mouth for the next 3 minutes to get it down... Meanwhile (Meek?) moved in and Mystic divided the rest of the prey between the other 2 babies.... I could tell gobbler was still working to get that big piece of prey down, even when I left to post this..
Hey Loza, thankyou for the great pictures, and video! I notice those babies ate every last bit of the prey!

Some from today. I messed this up on the Canton site. I thought I had just Mystic but perhaps I had both. This is why I shouldn't be on the roof alone.

I saw two of the most polite feedings this evening. They have good manners, thus far.

Over Night! This morning they grabbed it from Mystic and self fed.....all three, but mostly the boy's did...
