Is it possible that Mystic is trying to get her out of the box? Durand did this at Columbus. She did a couple of feeds on the upper ledge that Dart missed because he couldn't get up there. She didn't go down to feed him either.

I don't know if the feed was over, but action was out of view.

She is not opening her mouth and is having difficulty getting in even the smallest of bites..Feed had already started when I opened the cam..

Here's the part where she got more interested in eating...watch full screen...ya may have to go to YouTube to do that.

My first thought was at best: beak/jaw/mouth injury..

worse case: Frounce..

But, when the little male had frounce at Harrisburg several years ago, he had no problem opening his mouth...he just couldn't swallow the food very well..

Pics to go with...pics don't show it, but Mystic and her brother pulled pieces from her mouth that she couldn't swallow...and one piece got stuck in her mouth/throat and she scratched at it and shook it out...Mystic ended up inside the box feeding for a bit, as well, Reign got some bites down... Enough to keep her going I think!! If it's trich...She can get over it depending on her immune system...

She could not swallow this piece...the brother took it out of her mouth:

Back to closing her eyes after the feed...

There MAY Be a attempt to get her out of the box today...If everything goes well....All depends on what DOW decides to do...

Keep and eye on C&C's peregrine facebook page for posts, as well as here. The Canton Peregrine Pair Facebook page has neither admin available to work it till tonight. Thanks!!

C&C Facebook update..

Dove dive, Males looking to leap, and "Reign"ing concern: Canton

We've been spending a great deal of time at the Canton site over the last several days, as it represents the most developed juvies of the sites that we watch. The two males have been venturing out onto the porch of the box daily and as they quickly shed their down through preening and flapping they are ever closer to their first flights! They have stepped up onto the outermost lip of the porch, but we haven't seen either male venture onto the ledge at this point, despite some apparent coaxing attempts from Mystic and Mo, who landed to their left as one male leaned off the porch toward them prior to the next feeding. Both Mystic and Mo are supplying food, but they are staying close when the juvies are most active, watching as they prepare for fledge time. We were fortunate to catch some good action through these days, in particular, a near grab of a dove by Mo on Sunday morning as he launched a surprise attack right near the parking deck, and then a beautifully synchronized aerial food drop Monday evening as Mo dangled and then dropped prey to Mystic right over the nest box as the males were on the porch (we'll get that sequence together and posted soon)!

It's been fun to watch, yet one concern has developed to dampen it a bit. Chad Steele (local watcher and co-contributor to the Canton's Peregrine FB page) noticed by watching the nest cam that the female juvie, "Reign" was acting sluggish and disinterested. Chad (Steele) has knowledge of pigeons and is tuned into the possibility of illness, such as trichomonaisis from seeing it with those birds. We don't normally do a great deal of cam watching, but after Chad alerted us to this concern we began watching more closely on site by checking the monitor in the lobby of the Canton Club and saw Reign's odd lack of reactivity to her brothers and frequent isolation in the back corner of the box with her eyes partially or fully closed often. We did notice her eating (as did Chad and others including Mary Ann Reid, who captured the cam's video clip), so we wanted to avoid interfering if she might be able to fight off her illness (as peregrines are reportedly able to do with mild cases of Trich/Frounce), but we touched base with both Laura (from the MRC) and Laurie (from DOW). Headed back to the site today and if all stays the same and there seems to be a good opportunity to get Reign and have her assessed by a vet or Laura we will be working with DOW toward that end. We'll provide updates as we can, although we probably won't be able to provide much advance notice (for those who'd like to catch this on cam).

I'm sorry to hear that Reign isn't doing well. I hope she can either fight off whatever the problem is or get some help. I just opened the cam & she is standing in the box alone but appears to be alert. Poor baby... :egg15:

:egg15: Reign was alone in the box, eyes closed, motionless, and the cam froze at 10:30, then we totally lost the picture. Its back on, Reign is still standing motionless.

Thanks for posting the link to the fB page, mwplay...

I'm glad she's standing, but she's more lethargic today than yesterday.., I hope they decide to rescue her....I just hope it doesn't force the boys to fledge..
