A Four Falcon Watch - January 9, 2010
January 9th, 2010
From Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.

Today we found not one, not two, not three, but four adult Peregrine Falcons. You can read all about it in this album.

Enjoy!

The plot thickens! The adult was back on the KP Research Lab bldg yesterday. Dana was on Watch after I left and saw a banded juvenile fly in and knock the adult off of the corner. The adult flew off to the east and the juvie flew around the top of the bldg and eventually flew off to the south. The adult was not banded, so it was not Mariah. Not to worry, Mariah is usually gone during this time of year.

So, we’ve actually had 6 different Pergrine Falcons since Thursday. 1- Beauty, downtown. 2 & 3 - The 2 unbanded Falcons at a bldg to the west of the city. 4 - The unbanded adult on the KP Research Lab Bldg. 5 - The banded juvenile that knocked the adult off of the bldg and 6 - The unbanded juvenile that Dana saw hunting and eating in Irondequoit last Thursday.

Rochester is becoming quite the Peregrine HOT SPOT this Winter. :)

That is wonderful providing they can all find a territory of their own & stay in it! Rochester is a good place to have a lot of peregrines nesting, too, because of the number of people who take interest in them...

Thanks, Kim!

New post on Imprints:

Rochester Falconcam team members Kenn Martinez and Jim Pisello installed a new Main camera at the Times Square nest box. It has more resolution (14 megapixels maximum) and a greater zoom range than the old camera. A more stable camera mount and improved software are a couple of other features. You can read all about the work and a couple of special visitors at Jim’s Peregrinations blog.

We’re all looking forward to a season of great pictures from the new camera!

Oh my, the soap opera continues! When does Mariah usually return from migration--is it early March?

Thanks for posting that link, Carly!
:thanku

We might end up finding out that Archer is back in the area & just found another honey. It sounds like there are many peregrines in Rochester. I still haven't given up hope that maybe Kaver is still alive & will return this year--he wouldn't be the first tiercel to miss a year at his normal nest & return the next year. Not likely, but possible!
