1227CDT SCARLET ON THE LEDGE AND CHICKS NOT IN VIEW!

Sorry guys have not been able to post until now.

Ground Report: Almost every day I see a falcon either on top of the nest box ( perhaps listening to the young'uns moving around) or else usually on the northeast corner of the building. From my infrequent cam watching I can see that they move a lot ! Cute and mostly helpless..... but not for long ........

I went through downtown a few times during the blackout and caught sight of Zeus looking rather disinterested at all the goings on. The underground fire was actually at the corner right next to the County City Building at the corner of Washington and Lafayette, right by the nest box. I happened to look there street level at the time and there was absolutely nothing to see except electrical workers in suits. I wonder if our little falcons somehow arranged all the ruckus.

1340CDT ONE CHICK STANDING IN CORNER WITH ITS BACK TO US AND SCARLET IS ON THE PORCH.

1901CDT TWO CHICKS IN THE BOX AND I THINK SCARLET IS UP PAST THE PORCH STANDING @ THE END OF THE RAIL. THE VIEW OF HER IS DISTORTED.

Ground Report: I am in the library, just ONE block from the nest box, and just five minutes ago I saw TWO beautiful falcons !!


Scarlett was perched on the nest box perch, and Zeus was perched on the corner of the building, looking very proud. I do believe that fatherhood agrees with this young bird.

In reply to SWINK: Since I have no cam access these days, I am wondering if Zeus does his share of babysitting. He certainly did last year. Maybe he has been in the box sometimes but out of sight, trying to keep up with those traveling young ones.

Or maybe he is hunting farther afield to feed them. There is a lot of spilled popcorn at the ball park just a few blocks away. Does anyone here know if little falcons eat popcorn?

I saw a falcon on my drive to the state park today. No way to tell if it was one of our friends here or not, as it was a bit far from downtown South Bend!

2301CDT IT'S A THRILL TO SEE ONE IN PERSON ISN'T IT MARINE OF 2! ON A VERY, RARE OCCASION I HAVE SEEN ONE IN MY TOWN. BUT, NOT THIS YEAR YET! THANKS FOR YOUR NEWEST PIC OF ZEUS TERKA! AND I THINK HE IS DOING NEST DUTY TONIGHT. WISH HE WOULD TURN HIS HEAD MORE, SO I CAN BE SURE. THE CHICKS ARE ACTUALLY AWAKE AND PREENING AND MOVING AROUND SOME @ THIS LATE HOUR! BUT, WHAT A TREAT!
