Evening with Swift :girlsad3:

Image

Image

7.56 pm

I spent the Swift almost 3 h.

The whole time she was bouncing around in the seat and stood in the window.

I get the impression that she is resigned to the loss of a child.

About MG I believe that it is not. What mother in such moments is is not a child??

Even the mother bird?

There is no new publication from Cilla :girlsad3:

No update....yet...but, Cilla did post a comment yesterday afternoon:

I went up the tower to have a look at the direction that Aspro might have taken – unfortunately the main window in the tower has been closed, so I couldn’t look out at the roofs of the buildings where birds have fetched up in previous years. Then a group of us did a search, but no luck. Both parents were absent, which didn’t help as I was hoping that they would ‘fuss’ giving us a clue to Aspro’s whereabouts (assuming that they know this).

Will try again later today when they are back and/or tomorrow.

A brief update from Cilla...bless her heart..sounds like she has no help...still nothing..Sounds like they haven't checked the tops of nearby buildings yet...I think that would have been my first stop based on the footage of Aspro's unfortunate slip.....sigh...

I'm not giving up yet!!!

I am not giving up wither and I will always go on the premise that no news is good news. We must remember that they do not always come back to box and if a female she would not be ready yet.

And if they can only do brief checks, they might miss the clues. Not their fault. You need many hours of checking, as those of us on watches can attest to.

So if the ones from Spirit can make it so can she. and they ( the ones from spirit, never went back to box, They ha d someone manning the cams an d rotating them so we could see or we would have never known the wee one made it.

cannot watch next two days, but they are out among those trees and bushes, which gives me hope . and they also dive straight down.

Swift is doing what she always does, chick or no chick. She rests a lot and you do see her stretching her neck an d looking out.

So I will remain hopeful, even if I do not see Aspro.

Yesterday I missed all day .... I was hoping to find good news ..... I'm losing hope ..... when in Minesota fell Mac we could hear and then see him ..... here .. ... no signal.
The absurd thing is that when Aspro fell ..... I looked pc Swift arrived soon ...... how is it possible that he has not seen or heard ?????? Yet when she arrived stopped at the nest .... not dropped down ....... I do not know what to think

Thanks for that, SWINWK.

Swift is in the box at the moment but as Camera 1 has gone down I can't see her.

If she's ok...she should be getting hungry, and start calling out. Beau may be taking his parental turn now too. Swift may be stepping back while he steps up. Can't believe there are no watchers there! I do not think a walk about is going to see much. Someone there needs to take some time to sit and observe. :popc:

Orange - AUSTRALIA
Published 20 November, 2014 | By Cilla Kinross

No actual news as yet. I’ve been looking at the tapes and have noticed when the adults have left with food (a good sign) and tried to focus on that area when we have been out searching. But the adult birds, despite clearly seeing me/us have not made a pipsqueak (a bad sign). I have spent hours walking right around the campus on my own and with friends and colleagues (even bringing in my dogs last night (on leads, of course), which I thought provoke the adults into attacking, but they scarcely turned a hair.

Going through the tapes of Saturday when the accident happened, I noticed that Aspro had a good feed (perhaps an eastern rosella) an hour beforehand and during that day there were several periods of major strong wingflaps around the box (another good sign).

I was also able to catch Aspro standing right on the ledge so I could measure her and she is definitely a she, almost as tall as Swift, but much slighter, of course.

Again, thanks to those who have sent words of encouragement (and particularly to Yvonne for the tape of one of the exits). I apologise for not doing an update yesterday as promised, but I had nothing but bad news to report and was hoping that looking at more of the exits and landings might help.

If Aspro is a girl, she would not be doing flights back to box yet , especially being out prematurely. She was out at 37 days which would make her just 43 days. Many females do not fledge till day 44 or later

I am still being positive, and the fact that she tried to get back in and was facing box when she tried, I just know she made it somewhere.

From observing from ground for many years on watches, our adults do not cack when we are close to a young one. I have my 2 spaniels with us all the time.

When Peter rescued Blue, within full sight of chase and Radisson , they did nto even buzz him. I find they are more inclined to make noise when young are in box and just watch cautiously when they are out so they do not give away their location.

but when they are to feed , we follow the adults. This means many hours of nonstop observation( which I may not be able to do for many more years)
We find they call when they are trying to locate a young one. ( much like robins do)

while I was observing at this box , I felt they knew where she was and that Beau had taken over many of the duties( which is not unusual)

I am not trying to give false hope but we may never see her on cam again, and that does not mean she has not survived.

When a site does not have people to do around the clock observation, it is hard to locate a young one . they may have just missed a feed or a flight. and wiht all those trees , who knows

so even if I do not see Aspro again, my heart is hopeful.

and swift does what swift does, rest a lot LOL Bless her soul. But she is a good mom.

I will try and post my short videos of 2 days ago when they were both in and out of box.

Just my thoughts
