Here is a photo taken last night at 19:38 of Blue 80 and the Glaslyn female. Mating took place during the afternoon and throughout the evening. It was looking good so far but what would the morning bring?.
At 6am this morning both birds were on the nest together, the female was relaxed and resting inside the nest and Blue 80 was perched at the side, fiddling with twigs. He left for a short time to chase annoying crows out of the area. Job done he flew around the clump of trees and then circled above the nest. He's definitely very protective of the nest and the female just like 11(98)
Some time later he went out fishing. He returned at 9 20am with a nice Grey Mullet for the female. Well done Blue 80! All is looking promising!

Together now, look at the camera, please!
Latest News.Blue 80 arrived just after noon today with another fish, a Grey Mullet. We are so proud of him.

It was another eventful day at the Glaslyn nest. Our two residents defended the nest from the unringed female that briefly landed on it this morning. The intruder hung around for a while, but eventually headed north. Blue 80 also disappeared north late morning and we did not see him for several hours, although on occasions the behaviour of the female suggested he was somewhere nearby.
Just as we were about to close the doors of the visitor centre for the evening we spotted Blue 80 right in front of the decking carrying a small mullet. He headed straight to the nest and handed it over to Mrs Glaslyn. As we made our second attempt of the afternoon to lock the doors she was sat on the perch enjoying her evening meal as he was busy making a few nestorations.
What a difference a few days make!

TELENOVELA IN GLASLYN: The female, Blue 80 and CU2

from fb https://www.facebook.com/BywydGwylltGlaslynWildlife?
The Glaslyn female has just laid her first egg at 19:25.

CU2 is currently on the nest with the Glaslyn female. They seem quite comfortable with one another. The egg has not been covered in the last 30mins and possibly much longer. It has been a cold night and is still cold at the protection site. No one can know if the egg has been fertilised or not. If these two birds are to bond, which we hope they will, it is highly likely that CU2 will remove the egg from the nest. If so there is still time for them to mate, lay more eggs and raise a family, if left alone by Blue 80.

The egg has been removed from the nest. Both birds had been in a nearby tree behind the nest 15mins ago. Until we look at the recordings after 10am we will not know which bird removed the egg but it is believed to be CU2. They have now returned to the nest and the Glaslyn female is calling all the time. Let's hope he gets the message and goes fishing.

and now
Wonderful news, CU2 has just presented the Glaslyn female with a fish. She has taken it to eat. We very much hope this is the beginning of a closer bond between the two birds.

latest news
Mrs Glaslyn the Magician!
We have had time to go through the footage of the disappearing egg from early this morning. Initially we thought that CU2 may have removed the egg from the nest but all is not as it seemed!
A quick sleight of hand (or talon) from the female. Blink and you'll miss it!

:newegg: :newegg: Great news! The Glaslyn female has laid a second egg. It was first seen in the centre of the nest at just after 6am. She is currently on the nest with the egg and has been moving nesting material around it. She is also cup making and partially covering the egg herself. No sighting yet this morning of CU2.

The Glaslyn female lays a fourth egg.

After eating her fish on the nest platform the Glaslyn female returned to the nest........

Both male and female were seen on the Glaslyn nest earlier this morning. The male is still attentive to the female.
