A rainy day in South Bend, and Zeus is sitting tight on his eggs....

just checked recorder and both have been incubationg. boy I am going to start checking these sites every day for 2 same falcons

They are both in the nest right now, Maltese on the ledge looking around and Zeus patiently incubating. .... His little head is low to the gravel. WHOA ! Maltese took off suddenly and Zeus perked right up ! He looked around for a bit, very alert although not budging from the eggs. Then he seemed to calm down, got up, made a quarter turn, checked the eggs and sat down again, fluffing up his breast feathers to cover all of HIS special EGGS. :newegg:

It is supposed to get chilly here :coldwinter:

about 30 F or so, but nothing that these devoted parents can't handle.

I will sleep with my little long haired kitty to help beat the cold.

Yes Tsusan, earnest is exactly the word. And having seen many months ofthis earnest little bird's solitude,

He is sitting earnestly on the eggs right now.

yes, they make a great pair, don't they. And she seems to like having Zeus as her mate - I'm thinking of how after she had her first egg, she looked and looked and looked for Zeus...

I actually saw Zeus perched on the building corner yesterday. I've looked several times but other than yesterday I've seen no falcons except on the cam. They look pretty peaceful on those eggs, probably as peaceful as they are ever going to get. :wink:

Hi sbwatcher! It never ceases to amaze me watching these Falcons taking care of their eggs so carefully. How carefully they turn the eggs from time to time, how they "hug" them with their wings to be sure the eggs are covered - especially in this very cool spell we have had for the last couple weeks... I'm so glad my tulips and daffodils do not mind the cool temps!

That seems about right. Eggs were laid 3/31, 4/2, 4/5 and 4/7.

The one and only Zeus is giving his lady-love a little R and R by keeping the eggs warm for a bit. They must be talking to him because he keeps bending down to look at them...

Live sighting and Cam sighting

11:38 a.m. A bird takes off from the County City building and :roll:

..... yes, yes, that is the distinct shape of a peregrine falcon ! :ohyes:

Flying, wheeling and then perching on the Chase bank building. Later at around 12:10, the bird wheels and flies behind a building. I lose sight of it, but then notice that a falcon is perched one of Zeus's favorite spots on the County City Building corner.

I walk into the library and on the cam 12:20 Maltese (definitely her ) is with the eggs, doing lots of checking and a little moving, now some listening, and now hmmm, looks like she is going to settle down on top if them...... no , now she is up again. There are clearly four eggs but not in the same position as before.

12:25 now she is on them but more alert than she has been recently whilst setting. She has lovely speckle patterns around her head.

1:05 I missed the transfer but now it is Zeus sitting on the eggs. He also looks pretty alert. He turns his head to the left, then looks down. Not looking sleepy at all as he was so recently whist sitting.

WI, 2013
male – unbanded

Pair noted at nest box on 03/04 with the new female identified by Gigi Caito from a screen shot. Making a scrape on 3/19. First egg noted on 3/31 around 7:00PM; 2nd on 4/2 after 9:00PM; 3rd late on 4/4 or early 4/5; 4th by 4/7."
