You're right Sally, we all think they're special! :5val:

Thanks for that link, Carolyn. Lets hope that somebody in charge of his medical care will hear that the "seizures" weren't actually seizures & now that he's had a chance to rest up from his trauma, he's doing very well balancing himself. In fact, that's why I snapped this capture. Lorgayle remarked in a post earlier than he was pecking at an area on his back near his tail. I just caught him doing that again, so he must feel pretty confident about his balance now.

As Bev said, baby steps. He's feeling comfortable standing today; tomorrow he may try walking around the nest!

Sally, you are so right! Every season always leaves us with some sort of favourite nest story. I think this Mother and Baby story just may be it for this year. They have touched my heart in a HUGE way. :loveheart2:

Edit: There's just something about Peregrine parents. Nothing tops them!

Thanks for the great coverage and pics...and I just love that pic of mom and baby, Catwoman...as Friday draws closer, I'm a little nervous about what will happen. Will they band and return the baby and hope for the best? Will they keep the baby and leave Dorothy and E2 wondering where their child is?

Thanks for posting the link to the media coverage, Carolyn!! All eyes will be on this nest come Friday..and especially now that the media has picked it up...

I am guessing that they will take the baby for a vet exam, and find some problems with it, and not return it to the nest. (euthanasia, or, hopefully make it an ambassador peregrine!) I am not trying to be glum but we might be witnessing the final days that Dorothy and her baby will be together :cryinggirl:

I'm hoping for the best here...we've all been praying for this baby to get some help if need be...and now that we're getting so close to that reality, I'm just sending up all my prayers and positive vibes that in the next 36 hrs (give or take a few) that this baby will grow stronger and stronger...and then give them a healthy bite/talon grab come Friday!!

Perhaps they will do the banding, and then give the baby more time to develop at the nest....I have seen a bit of wing-flapping, but not a lot. If Dorothy will tend to this little one for an extended period, perhaps the baby can get its strength up, and eventually fledge. But I thought I read somewhere that the parents would not tolerate a lack of fledging on time....(whatever that implies :???: )

Bev, you may absolutely keep that picture! Anyone else who would like to can as well.

I totally understand what you're saying about Friday, SGB. I'm also concerned about the outcome. It would be so great to hear that he just needs a little more exercise to develop muscles or even some sort of parasite problem that is easily treatable. Love the idea of the bite from the poor little unbalanced weakling chick that they will probably be expecting!
:teehee:

Oh Caprica, I just read your post & I know that was said by someone reliable, but that just isn't always the case. I know of 3 kids that were allowed to stay home, & I think many of our forum members are familiar with them. The one I'm most familiar with is Polly, whose parents were Spirit & Roger in Montreal & the nest had a webcam. Polly broke her leg, I'm not sure whether it was before or after fledging, & she was still at the nest when Spirit had the next year's chicks. Polly did end up able to catch her own food & now has her own nest not far from Spirit's nest with her nestmate brother, Algo.

....AND, Polly and Algo have babies again this year...

I Love Polly!!

And who knows why that "child" subadult hung around in Rome, Italy...but, that was amazing to watch that nest..Aria and Vento had a built in baby sitter that year..

wow, that is very encouraging! That means there is no reason to take the baby from the nest permanently, and it will have the chance, at least, to catch up and develop to its full capability. :loveheart:
