Peeked in at the night cam, and I think I can see three juvies at the nest box. I wonder if one is on the roof, or has he fledged?

There seems to be 4 here now. I imagine they're sleeping in the doorway because there isn't much air circulating in the box.

I found one juvie in the box this morning. She is preening very vigorously, only flecks of down are left. She has beautiful light colored streaks on her head, like Maltese.

ONE NAPPING ON THE DECK! WENT THROUGH TIMELINE AND CAN ONLY SEE 1 @ A TIME THIS MORNING DON'T KNOW IF ALWAYS SAME ONE AS IT IS UP TO THE ROOF AND OVER TO THE CORNER AND OUT OF SIGHT AT TIMES. :eggsmile:

SOUTH BEND — At least two of the city's four peregrine falcon chicks started learning to fly this week.
Local residents are being encouraged to watch for the falcons when they're downtown and to contact a raptor rescuer if a bird is found injured or in trouble.
"The first flew Tuesday and the second started late Wednesday. They are doing fairly well," said Carol Riewe, a local raptor rehabilitator. The two other chicks remain in and around the nesting box atop the County-City Building, but should start flying soon, she said.
If a falcon is found injured or stranded at ground level, "don't try to pick it up," Riewe said. "Try to keep it out of the street by nudging it to a sidewalk.

If a bird is found in trouble, call 574-339-7913 or 574-360-2304. Or call Animal Control at 574-235-9303.
The young birds hone their flying skills for about six weeks, then leave their home community to settle in other locations, sometimes hundreds of miles away.

CURRENTLY, THERE IS LARGE PREY IN NEST. WENT THROUGH TIME-LINE AND SAW PARTS OF 3 JUVIES @ ONE TIME. SAW ONE FLY OFF RAILING! EARLIER 1 JUVIE WAS FEEDING FROM PREY.

Tsusan! THERE ARE 2 HANGING OUT ON THE DECK AGAIN TONIGHT. I NEVER SEE THE PARENTS, BUT OBVIOUSLY ONE OF THEM BROUGHT THAT PREY IN.

Hey Guys, there is a flying lesson going on RIGHT NOW !! :egg17:

It's been breezy here today and that means lots of chances to learn to ride air currents. Two birds have been flying over the library and several parking lots, mostly not close to any buildings. At one point they were just three or four stories above ground, close enough for me to see markings and that beautiful peregrine shape. :eggsmile:

They quickly gained altitude and soared onward.

At one point a pigeon flew close by but no change in course for the falcon. One must learn to fly before one learns to hunt, after all. The pigeon changed direction and landed on the back of the County City Building. What was that bird thinking?!! :girlcrazy:

I mean this is Falcon Central we're talking 'bout here ! Just how long this pigeon is going to live, I don't know.

Must run now, but I'm hoping to post more this week, I'm sure there will be more falcon action to come ! :egg17:
