The green band is one indication. Another is a red band on the right leg. I'm starting to think we have two intruders!!! The bird with the prey yesterday was definitely an intruder because she had a red band on the right leg.

Wow! I haven't seen anything since first thing this morning. Are there additional nest boxes in the area? I know all the nearby bridges are taken. Maybe they need more places for the birds to nest. NJ seems to be increasing the numbers every year, which I'm sure is impacting the population around you. I'm grateful we haven't had territorial battles in Richmond, but it could happen just as easily here. We don't have a second box and the bridges are taken here too.

Kim - From reading your prior posts, I think I finally have the bands straight for the resident Wilmington falcons.

    Left leg: black over red

    Right leg: plain metal (no color)

If this isn't correct, could you let me know? Thanks.

That's correct although the bands for the male look more like one big black band because the red is all gunked up.

Thanks Kim! Provided I can see the leg bands, I should be able to distinguish the residents from the intruders from now on.

I just caught the resident female at home again. I'm sure it's the female because the red band is visible on the left leg.

I have a couple more captures Kim, just now @ around 3:49 but not the legs...

Someone was also there at 3:27 in the 1:00 area of the nest...
