Glad to read all the juvies are still doing well today :) This includes our human falcons too

Does anyone happen to know when the blood test results (taken from the chicks during banding) are due to come back? It seems like it has been long enough for these results to have been processed. I sure hope no heavy metals are found in those results.

All three fledglings are on the west tower. Lucy remains fascinated with the Christmas lights. Looks like she is chewing one. Don't get alarmed. She's just rubbing her beak on it. Probably cleaning off brunch.

I don't know about that pen idea. Didn't this pair do everything they could to avoid nesting here this year? (well that's my interpretation of the events, but what do I know) I'm just making an observation. Still, in the end everything worked out, it looks like.

ljames - The pair nested successfully here - with the pen - in 2007. They nested here again in 2008, but something was wrong with the eggs/chicks at hatching time and none survived. I believe the loss of their chicks last year was the reason the pair tried alternate sites before coming back to their original nest box this year. I don't believe the pen was a factor.

Catbird, they didn't put up the big cage after banding time in 2007. I recall how shocked we all were when we saw only 2 instead of the 4 juvies!

I'm happy they put it up after our lil imp Ahhhnold landed on the hightway twice this year!!! :o

Barb already called Beth to report on a potential problem. Glad to report that everyone is accounted for and well. Golden Girl is now directly in front of us totally exhausted.

Update from Barb...

"Big" girl is directly across from her and up about 4 stories on the construction
building...She is tired and taking a rest but this is the 2nd time she
has misjudged her flying abilities and landed in a tight spot.

Bonnie is being interviewed and might be in the Richmond paper
with a photo opportunity!!
Barb and Bonnie ~ You guys rock :cheer

OMG, another star is being born from our forum. I think we've had several folks interviewed by newpapers/ tv stations. How exciting and a good opportunity to get the falcon message out there.

Golden girl flew to the condo/parking building east of Rverfront Plaza aka towers. She is a little too big and heavy plus tired to get the height so she can be with her siblings. Dgif will continue to monitor her until she is doing better.

2 pm. Barb reported both girls on the south side of the towers very happy to be together.

3 pm. Golden girll flew north and landed hard on Dominion we think.

So wonderful to report the continuous reports....so happy our babies are doing great. I surely miss them though.

I just got a chance to check in here and read the updates on the juvies. It sounds like things are going very well, and I'm happy after the things that have happened in the past. I sure am glad the parents get to finish raising and teaching their chicks this year!

Barb, I missed your pictures until just now--what a treat! Thank you for them and for all you're doing for these babies. It has to be a labor of love to be out there in the blistering heat! Also, thank you for reporting to us on the forum what the status is of these beautiful birds! :thanku :thankyou :flowers

Barb and I got back to her house about an hour ago. Rain storm coming in. We had some more drama after 2 pm. Golden Girl (aka Ethel) got into some more trouble or so we thought. She only spent a little while catching up with Lucy before she took off for the Fed Reserve bldg again. She learned from yesterday and made a turn before she hit the windows. She then went on to the top of the Dominion bldg which she seemed to hit full throttle. DGIF immediately went up to the north and west to see if she was visible. We waited and waited and waited and worried and worried and worried. Then the storm was approaching, DGIF was leaving and it was time to go. She sensed that, I guess, and took off right over us to join her siblings on Riverfront Plaza near the nest box. Whew!!

There were some short flights by the fledglings around the building with one going back to the Fed Reserve. We can only assume that was our Golden Girl (Ethel).

Pictures are coming as soon as I can find a way to download because I lost my cable. :((

LOL. Too funny, Antilogical! But I agree - great reporting!

Bonnie - Thanks for the latest update. I'm so glad all the siblings were together and safe before the storm hit.

I'm glad Richmond is getting some rain (not necessarily the storm part). Hopefully, it will cool things down a bit.
