Shift change- got a nice look at the eggs, which are looking very beautiful. Mary Ellen came into the nest box giving little peeps, and giving the eggs a quick check. Then she carefully straddled them, gathering them with her wings and rolling the eggs under her with her beak.

As humans sing and talk to their babies in the womb, so do mama birds talk to their babies in the eggs.

All I keep seeing is that one egg with what looks to be a chip or poo on it nothing else. I have been watching as much as I can. Hopefully someone can catch something else

Parent is partially off the eggs... Maybe a small pip in the top of one egg?

I thot I saw a very tiny pip
I saw them switch about 6 pm
all day she wouldnt let him on the eggs
will we have a hatch by dawn?
I thot we'd have one by now
They are so cute - talking to each other
paid bond VERY strong

There was a hatch yesterday - an adorable fluffy white hatchling.
When they changed places - NO CHICK!
3 eggs, 1 has a pip, I dont see lil chicky anywhere!

OK this is getting really disturbing!
Whats going on with birds!?
Problems in eagles and falcons with eggs and chicks!
Cathedral, Arizona, Mass, Baltimore - we are losing babies!
One of the Calif eagles egg had a rock INSIDE the egg

I have looked thru the whole DVR and can't find the chick at all, hoping someone else saw it.
Sure is a lot of feathers (white fluffy) flying around.

You had such a sweet pic of chick above
I had a snip of chick
I KNOW it existed
It was TOO YOUNG to FALL out of the nest

then again
the Mass hatchling was found on the sidewalk

I confess - I freaked out when I didnt see it!

Some kind of flies are awful
I am noticing they are scratching a lot
I see LOTS of bugs flying - Mayflies? gnats?

I went through the dvr a couple of times and I couldn't see the chick either...
The feather on mom's? beak is from her own chest - preening...

So sorry to share that I located missing eyass on the ground below the nest box this morning. Reviewing the footage from last night it was very apparent that Mary Ellen was highly agitated most of the night, she left the nest box more that half a dozen times. I'm guessing that she may have been defending her nest from a great horned owl. At 01:16:33 on 5-3-16 Mary Ellen left the nest box in a hurry, unfortunetaly she took the eyass with her.
