Four little chicks. The site says the first chick didn't survive.
:sorrow:

I'm sure hoping the smallest one here makes it. I did see it fed.

Great to see the Grand Haven eggs, KF...we should be approaching hatch very soon..maybe a few more days? Fingers crossed!!

I'm still upset they didn't fix that box. I swear, if there are hatches and a chick gets stuck, WE ALL WILL BE EMAILING THEM LIKE CRAZY..I was promised the box would be fixed...guess that didn't happen..

St. Louis, Ameren (Sioux Energy)...Somehow, we have the wrong chick count here..The calendar says 4 chicks...but, that's not possible...I've got 2 chicks and 2 eggs showing...if anybody has a pic of 3 or chicks, could they post? I know their nestbox news says 4 chicks but are there really 4 chicks in that pic? maybe chick #3 just ddn't get up for this feed...I don't know..

Davenport Iowa news :girlsad3:

No eggs for 2016 in the peregrine falcon nest in Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Hatching typically happens around Memorial Day, but there are no eggs on the peregrine falcon nest at MidAmerican Energy in Davenport, Iowa.

Scorpio, the female and P/D, the male, have raised more than a dozen chicks since they made the nest their home, outside a 10th floor window at the building at 106 E. Second Street, in 2003. Bridge construction forced the pair from their original home on the Centennial bridge. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources installed a nesting box at the MidAmerican Energy building and the falcons immediately used it as their home.

“Hatching has historically been around Memorial Day nearly every year, so she (Scorpio) would be sitting on them (eggs) by now,” said MidAmerican Energy spokesman David Sebben. “Not ruse what the reason is this year, other than the possible age issue.”

Scorpio was released at Ball State University as part of a Wildlife Recovery program in 1999 and began nesting in Davenport in 2000.

Peregrine falcons typically live to be 15 to 17 years old, Sebben said.

Although P/D did not return to the nest in 2015, Scorpio laid four eggs there in 2015 and one of them hatched May 7. E/60 was the new male; he hatched in a nest at the U.S. Bank Building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 2007. It was unclear whether P/D had died (he was 16 years old) or if he was driven from the nest by the younger male.

Peregrine falcons were on the threatened or endangered species lists of Iowa, Illinois and South Dakota. With the elimination of DDT in the early 1970’s, the peregrine falcons have made a tremendous comeback and have been removed from the endangered species list, but are still on the protected raptor list.

May I introduce to you Irvwing, don't know anything else yet but its name

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Irvwing, a bird’s-eye play on the name Irving, has officially been chosen as the name for a falcon chick born on April 10 to a pair of peregrine falcons that live in a man-made nest box on the existing Tappan Zee Bridge.

The name was proposed by fifth-graders in Laura Brown’s class at Washington Irving Intermediate School. The class got the news Wednesday morning when a contingent of officials from the New NY Bridge project visited the school to surprise Brown’s class. It’s the second year in a row that Washington Irving has been honored with a chosen name.

Last year, when three chicks were hatched at the same site, Washington Irving was one of three schools with winning names. Last year, Washington Irving won for naming one of the chicks “Bridgette.”

Christine Kern, the fifth-grader whose name was chosen by her classmates to enter into the contest, said she thought Irvwing might have “a zero chance of winning.” But Christine said she decided to suggest Irvwing after looking at previous winning names and deciding that the public might like a name that is “kind of a pun.”

The New NY Bridge invited members of the public to help name the new falcon chick by holding a week-long naming contest on the project’s Falcon Cam web page. Last year, more than 3,000 people voted and schools in Rockland and Westchester counties entered potential names. Thanks to the efforts of several organizations and volunteers, man-made nest boxes on the existing bridge have steadily helped grow the state’s falcon population in recent decades.

Before the old bridge is torn down, a similar nest box will be installed atop one the new bridge’s iconic towers for future falcons. The nest box — installed and maintained by the New York State Thruway Authority — provides shelter and a high vantage point from which the peregrines can seek out and dive after prey.

loza
I just went thru the DVR and all looks good , I saw 4 different feeding frenzies & didn't see anything stuck. These 4 are just monsters when food comes in these parents jump in and are attacked :teehee: .
The chicks grab chunks half their size and start scarfing it down like theres no tomorrow. Here is part of one of the feedings.
