No news from Spirit (I was not at the university recently) but from Eole: he is now attempting to nest at the incinérateur des Carrières with his mate from last year! Someone just sent us a photo proving his identity.

I spotted the pair tuesday. They are considering nesting at the same place than in 2014. But there is a problem: a pair of common raven has built a nest just below (maybe 4 meters below) and has babies... The falcons are very busy attacking the adults raven when they are coming to the nest or leaving it (yesterday the falcons also started to attack them at a greater distance). At several occasions, a falcon attacked a raven that just passed maybe 3 meters above my head...

Here is a video that gives a very little feeling of what is going there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DnY5fQdkKs&feature=youtu.be

I could see also a few copulation (1 in 3h30 yesterday).

thank you for your report

Th e raven and falocn can coexist. the raven just has to fly low and teach young to fly low , until out of area.

these ones appear to be nesting to0o close but then they were there first,

We know this from our RAdisson. She hates ravens but they do nest, around area, but she teaches them early, to stay away form box and fly low. the ones that know, do fly so low around area. It makes us smile. hopefully , these ones learn.

have they thought of putting a box on that stack,( above catwalk) since they are so interested in this area. We have a lot of boxes on stacks out this way.

hope you hear of Spirit soon, but when I last saw her, she was using her leg well

I could see 2 falcons on the university tower from 6h15pm to 7h40pm yesterday. The one which I believe was Spirit disappeared around 7h40pm. By looking for her, I discovered that a falcon was present at 8h37pm at a spot generally used by Spirit for the night at the Oratoire Saint-Joseph, outside the university campus. This spot is used outside the nesting season, so this suggests that the nesting season is definitively over for her. The other falcon was still on the university tower at 9h15pm when I left.

Posted on FB today-eggs have been removed

The Hawks were not present during the operation. Thank you Jean-Sebastien Mayer! The eggs will be sent to the clinic of birds of prey of st-Hyacinthe for analysis.

The fact that Eole is back at the University might suggest that his nesting attempt at the Incinérator des Carrières site has failed but this is not the case!

Éole is the proud father of 2 eyeasses that we could see for the first time last thursday. Here is a video of this first glimpse.

They were born around June, 26, which is very late in the season as birth occurs generally in the first half of May in our area.

Thank you very much skygirlblue!

Eole has 2 females, Spirit (which is also his mother) at the university and Eve at the incinerator. It is the second year that he first tries to nest with Spirit and then with Eve. What is somewhat surprising is that Eole resumed daily visits to the university a few days ago while he has babies at the other site and despite the fact that the resident male of the university is still present... From our observations however Eole is most of the time at his nest, watching on his babies with his current mate Eve.

Thanks!! I had totally forgotten that Eve was there!! Well, he better take care of those babies!!

I too am surprised that he has resumed his visits to the University!! Maybe if Carly sees your posts and description, she'll share how Jack, the once resident male at Etobicoke (Toronto, I think), managed to maintain 2 nests with 2 sets of chicks for several years!!
