(arents have been largely absent, with little feeding happening, just a drop-off service. If they turn up empty handed, they get nagged. Food provision has gone down a bit, a normal ploy to encourage some independence in the youngsters. But there was a large white bird prey with pink feet that puzzled me for a bit, but I think it was a white pigeon (hopefully not someone’s loved racing bird). Other bird prey included starling, an eastern rosella and a green bird, probably a young crimson rosella.) this was a quote from cilla

the parents will not be far away. The feeds do slow down as they get closer to fledging although at some sites , we wonder if they will ever leave home as they get fed non-stop. LIke everything else, these falcons beat to their own drum. And every tune is different. :leafthumbs:

this is normal at this time. We cannot see outside but our adults were always perched quite close.
and yes Shep, Xavier is trying to lure them out. He does not dislike the young , he is just not as attached as he will be next year.
He is probably zooming past and showing them where to fly and land.

I really do believe he is a good male. As I have said before, he appears young and has done what is required.

I wish I could hop on a plane , and be there for fledge to see how he is with them.

Xavier does not have the hormones of a father, but the juveniles will get great flying lessons from him, he is the master. :pumpbounce:

I also really like him! :leafthumbs: :7val:

Yeah I know Arjen.

As dawn broke Nov 14 Monday, Xavier repeatedly appeared at the window, trying to lure the young ones out. Once bev explained it - its obvious

I have seen this before at my sites. she was tuning it in. This is why it can be dangerous for the adults. I remember once at our site, just after fledging, one of the young kept pestering our female and she tuned him in good, he squealed and did nto bother her again.

I think Diamond is keeping tabs as it is windy.

Young stay indoors
November 14, 2016
Monday, By Cilla Kinross
It’s been unseasonably cold and wet today, but brightening this afternoon. Prey included a parrot, a galah and a starling but an unidentified blob that the youngsters were clearly not impressed with.

I had a look at the ‘incident’ this morning, but it didn’t seem to be much more than a rather over-the-top ‘nag’ after Diamond arrived empty-handed (not surprisingly, considering the weather at the time) and perhaps she put him in his place.

Also intriguing was the flypast by Xavier. I may have missed some of these as they were quite quick, but here is one this afternoon where X does appear to be trying to persuade the youngsters to leave.

Shepnotes
bev says Xavier is asking young to come out n play.
That fight was essentially Mum spanking her young.

As I was typing, Xav-the-flash darted in n out.
Nearly 8 pm now – Vim wont fledge today

MAYBE TUESDAY :downleaf:

Teasing juvies to fly
Arjen video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... ap7j6bFAzg

:yip LOL! A Xav-a-copter! Freeking HILARIOUS!
He hovers, he flies sideways, he flies backward! The ONLY person who will believe this is bev! This is too funny for words. May be the BEST video ever made of a falcon luring the young out. Xavier has flight skills beyond incredible. He even dashs inside n flashs right out. I dont think the kids liked it!
I LOVED IT

Awesome vids, as always!!

That was quite the scolding from Diamond!! I've seen that happen before too. These guys are in such a confined space I'm surprised we (meaning you guys) don't see more of it.

Quite the fly bys by Xavier. At this point, it would probably be dangerous for him to enter the box without food...they would mob him!!! :girlcrazy:
