SO THRILLED TO SEE THE EGG! :clapegg:

I just looked on the live video, and there it is, with Mom(?) standing guard.

I have not checked since yesterday morning, as I have been away from the computer---and there it is!!

My guess was a day late--never happier to be wrong. That warm weather must have worked its magic and inspired this couple to be a day earlier.

This is so exciting!!!

Too bad you weren't watching yesterday morning, Finchy, for many of us were watching when Mom laid that egg. She looks much more peppy or alert this morning, as I'm sure that egg-laying is tough work for a bird. I'd guess another one will be laid tomorrow, and sure hope so, anyway. It's supposed to rain here tomorrow and be cooler, too.

I'm sorry I missed the excitement, too. But it was wonderful to be able to check back here and see all the photos that every one took, and read the accounts of watching the event.

So far, Lil Dad is being good about not trying to incubate yet. I think that's why a chick hatched 3 days later than the last one last year--he got on the eggs whenever Mom's back was turned even though she said to wait!

SOUNDED LIKE LIL DAD WAS THROWING A TANTRUM SOME. HE FLEW OFF SQUAWKING, FLEW BY SQUAWKING AND THEN LANDED SQUAWKING. MOM TOLD HIM SOMETHING, NOW HE'S QUIET. I THINK HE WANTS BY THE EGG. :lol:

That's what I thought, ljames! Looks like Little Dad is guarding the egg WITHOUT incubating it. He ought to move over just a little.

YES, WHEN LIL DAD BRINGS MOM FOOD, SHE MUST BE EATING IT CLOSER TO THE MIC BECAUSE YESTERDAY I HEARD IT 2 OR 3 TIMES. YOU CAN HEAR HER RIPPING APART THE PREY AND BONES BREAKING, SORRY FOR THE GRAPHIC IMAGES, JUST TRYING TO EXPLAIN.
