I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw that red tape is STILL on her leg band! After looking over some records I have here, it is ALL coming back to me now. She fledged on a Saturday around 5:00 in the afternoon. I was in a parking garage searching for a missing juvie, when a call came on my radio that DEP lets us use saying that Red just fledged. She wound up over on the new building next to the Carson Building that was still under construction at the time. She took off and wound up getting all tangled up in this netting over there, and was hanging on for dear life upside down as those of us on the street stood by and watched helplessly. Don't remember all the details, but she took off and wound up inside a different parking garage, and the guard would NOT let us in to help her. I remember going back down very early the next morning, for there were only two of us who knew where she had been the night before. She was found sitting on a rooftop kind of catty-corner from the Carson Building. Some rescuers were back in this alley keeping an eye on her, and I was out on the sidewalk on Market Street across from the Carson Building. All of a sudden a Peregrine comes tearing down the alley right towards me. I remember taking a couple steps to the left, thinking this bird was going to land right on me, and there Red was on the sidewalk two feet away from me! I remember grabbing my radio and yelling to the others that Red was on the sidewalk right beside me. She flew/hopped right across Market Street, went around the corner about half a block away, and there was rescued. One gal carried the rescue box with Red in it and carried it like it held some fragile china. Somewhere on the old forum I have an account of all of this before, and I'll have to see if I can find it.
