I am so glad to have the news of 2008 Red Girl at a her own nest site. Whether she caused the problem they had there last year is something we will probably never know. I don't remember which year it was, or which youngster, but one of the "girls" was so possessive of the Harrisburg nest ledge that we wondered if she might try to displace Mom. Peregrines have an extremely aggressive nature when it comes to territory, and there are numerous stories to that affect. It is indeed good news to know one we watched hatch and fledge at Harrisburg is now doing her own "thing" and has her personal nest site. Hooray for Red Girl from 2008!

Norma, I am pretty sure you are talking about Red Girl..... loud, screaming, fat, always first to the food drop. Remember we thought maybe she ate too much and that was why she didn't fly away! I guess she got the "alpha" gene and took it to DE!!!

I thought that was the bird I remembered, but I've watched several years, and it's easy to mix one up. I'm glad to have your confirmation.

As I said on the Wilmington site, I want to meet with you all too. It takes me 10 min. to get into the city. I do remember how late Red Girl was in fledging with her extra weight, and the noisy one. We couldn't ask for more wonderful news than this!! Amen, Amen! :clapegg:

It is nearly dark. I heard somebody a bit ago, but no one in view. Sounds breezy though. Change in the weather in store?

I just saw this smilie and thought of what is in store for us. Hopefully five eggs though, not four, each with its own set of growing eyes, wings and everything else that lies ahead! Happy Sunday everyone!!!

Too dark to see, but I think Mom just came to the scrape, for I could hear her.

I noticed the sound of the wind on the cam later today, too, & we have rain coming in tomorrow.

What wonderful news about our Red Girl turning up in Wilmington! Reading through all of your posts and looking at the old pictures brought back so many memories!!! I also remember worrying about her and why she wasn't fledging, and why she hung around so long afterward. I can remember her screaming at Lil Dad to feed her! I remember her sitting out on the perch where her parents usually sat big as you please. I think Mom even chased her off the nest box once after she'd been flying for awhile. So it seems she really did inherit her mother's and her grandmother's aggressive nature. She was a beauty as a juvie and looks like a beauty now. I have a feeling she's going to make one awesome adult and mother and mate.

It's sad that she may have fought a resident bird there, but as we all know, this is the nature of their lives and there is nothing we can do about it. I am just grateful that we can observe them the way we are able to do now and am so happy to be able to learn that some of the eggs we watched as they hatched are now fully grown and living their lives at their own nests.

Ditto Corva. Couldn't have said it better. I am so thrilled with this news, it's hard to think about anything else! Yesterday the "News Journal" had a nice article about all the events taking place here in Wilmington. Thats before we knew about Red Girl.( Mom & Dad are talking up a storm this morning) .It's too dark to see them. Kim's pictures of Red Girl are fantastic. After all the weight she had as a Juvie, she sure is a beauty like her Mother. I must say here, a BIG THANK YOU to REENIE for all the photos taken along the way, that afford us all of this History. Also to everyone SO involved with the Falcon's well being. Thanks go to SGB for the cute new Smilies. O.K.I'm done!! Been thinking too much!!

Well, the first egg was not laid until a little later in the morning so it could still be today... :P

Well, all I can hear is the wind whipping across the mic. There were some light showers here this morning, but is dry at the moment. More this afternoon, and maybe even a thunderstorm.
